The arctic blast hit us, and many people were unprepared for it. I was prepared because I grew up as a Northerner (born and raised in Minnesota). I spent 15. years of my married life living in Fargo, North Dakota, where blizzard-like conditions are expected for most winters.

The storm blew in high easterly winds from the Columbia River- the Gorge. Snow and ice blew down trees and toppled power lines. Many people were without power yesterday.

My assistant living facility lost power around 12:30 pm yesterday, and the storm continued for a long time. I hunkered down with tons of clothing layers and thick blankets I had brought from Fargo. For the first time in many years, yesterday. I needed it.

The power outage caused me not to have an Internet connection or to have any heat. The building had generators, but our electricity was out in our room. I refused to move to the other side of the building due to COVID-19. We have about eight residents and two staff off sick with COVID-19, so residents are on lockdown. Plus, this storm didn't help anything.

The building generator's heat didn't work as it was not that strong. I stayed in bed with covers over my head. I slept it off.

I thought for sure we would get a lot of snow.

The winds sure looked like it was blowing snow. It turns out there is very little snow on the ground. It got freezing. rain and icy out there.

The winds were a nasty thing to deal with

Not much snow. Too bad for me. I was hoping for lots!

It was hard yesterday because theses branches during the high winds kept clicking and clicking it sounded like a woodpecker ( it was loud-my bed is right by this window)

I pulled over a couple of hats stayed under my blankets.

The ice caused the power lines to crash. Train Max is out of service due to this weather.

At least the power is back on, the Internet is working too. The winds have lessen to the point where my portable heater is finally working. It's just frigidly cold.

I am warm under my thick winter blankets and layered of warm clothing.

PS: The Super Affliates and the Team are in Vegas (probably warmer there than here)

I am in Fayetteville, TN and we don't get very much snow, usually. When we do, it only sticks around for a couple of days and then starts melting.
That's not the case this time, though!
We got a few inches, it's sticking around, and now we're expecting freezing rain!
I don't mind the snow, until it starts melting, but the freezing rain is a different story!

Hi there, thanks for sharing. The winter storm we had Saturday lingered, and as of Tuesday, the ice storm came. We still have high winds, freezing rain, and ice everywhere, and it hasn't let up since. The warming trend will appear hopefully this weekend. I am familiar with your town as I've been through the area on my way to Huntsville, Alabama, from Nashville. I had a boyfriend that I dated and family from the Nashville area. I know the Smokey Mountains do get snow; I've been through it when driving through there to get to Asheville, North Carolina, and then traveling upwards to Washington, DC, where I attended college. I had a great experience traveling through the southern and southeastern parts of the USA by car in my young adulthood.

We still have snow and ice and my driveway and road are both still frozen!
I won't drive on it but my husband hasn't had any problem doing so. He has actually had to take my sister to work because her van is stuck.
It's just strange for it to stick around this long, lol!

Wow...How you are much warmer ,now, and your electricity has returned!

The arctic storm swung through Bellingham, WA, missing the entire Puget Sound, and swung back inland to hit Longview (near Ore border). It was a pretty site to see both the cascade range and the Olympic mountain range covered with snow.

We have had temps in the single digit temps at night, high 20s during the day. No Snow!

Rudy

Hi Rudy,

Thanks for sharing. Today the ice storm is coming to our area, another hit. Trees falling everywhere. More power outage is coming. I am glad you missed it. I'm sure it's nice to see the snow capped cascades here is a photo for you from Mount Hood up close.

Thanks, Im glad too! Another cold spell coming, tho. The utility companies were asking consumers to use less electricity and /or gas for heat due to cold weather impeeding services.

Great shot of Mt Hood!!

Thanks for sharing! Stay warm!!

Rudy

Yes, for sure.

You were certainly prepared being from Minnesota!!!!! Glad it didn't last long. Where I'm from in upstate, I'm used to snow too. People in VA, not so much. I'm just not so interested in shoveling anymore. So, I'm happy living here. It was really windy here yesterday but nothing but a dusting.

Stay warm AND away from sick people!!!!!!!
Take care!

Hi Debbi, yes, indeed. I stay in my room to avoid being around people sick with COVID-19. Im trying to keep warm despite the winds today. We have another storm, an "ice storm," that is supposed to hit us tomorrow. I hope not. Not again.

I remember back in 1979, I was staying at a friend's home in northern Virginia. A bad blizzard hit a snowstorm that hit DC/MD/VA (I was attending a boarding high school for the Deaf in Washington, DC then; I remember the date, I think, Feb 19, 1979). The school was out for three weeks. I remember having fun shoveling and helping the family out because they were not experienced with harsh winters. There was about 25 inches or more in the area. It was terrible for many people, but I was happy. I remember helping dig people's cars out.

Another memorable one was in East Moriches, New York, on Long Island, the Nor'Easter of 1996. I was stuck there, too. Again, I helped the family out. I was staying with a friend at the time. I lived in the DC/MD/VA area for 21 years because of the school for the deaf and attending Gallaudet University in NE DC.

Then, I dealt with it for most of my married life with my late husband, Stephen, in Fargo, North Dakota. It seems everywhere I go, a snowstorm and blizzards always hit wherever I am. Here, people gripe about little snow, and I want more. People told me I had a curse because I brought them snow. Well, that curse turned out to be a blessing. I told them, "If it weren't for me, you guys wouldn't be able to dig out or survive, eh?" With that, they said nothing more. I said, "Oh, is this a thankless job"? Suddenly, they started laughing, apologizing, shaking my hand, and saying thank you. Geez! 😂

Hi!
I'm glad you had those extra blankets for warmth! I can imagine how cold your room was! Glad y'all got the power back! Enjoyed the pictures. That's the only way I get to see snow is through everyone's pictures. I live in central Florida and we don't get snow this far down in the state.
Take care
Jena

Alright, I am glad you enjoyed the photos. Yes, Florida doesn't get snow, but sometimes you guys do get ice storms, mostly up north of Florida near the coastal areas

Oh my, we have the same weather here in Pennsylvania. I got my car stuck in my driveway and my disabled husband tried to pull me out but our truck got stuck to. We had two young people go by and stopped to help us get unstuck. They parked my car in the garage and I have not left the house since. Today I called a guy to come plow us open. I have to drive my disabled son to his drs appointment.
I really am tired of this weather already, but I’m grateful that we kept our old coal furnace. We fired it up last night. My prayer for you is I hope your heat is back on along with electric. 🤗 hugs

Yes, the heat is back, the electricity is on, and I am warm. The temperatures now are rising up to the 20's which is helping to melt the snow off.

I can’t wait for this snow to melt. Glad is all okay with you!
