My 1099 from Amazon

Blogging is dead, right?

Ha, not even close!

  • The number of bloggers in the United States is set to reach 30.7 million by 2020.
  • 77% of internet users read blogs.
  • People read around 10 blog posts per day.
  • 70% of consumers learn about a company through articles and not through advertising.
  • Marketers who have prioritized blogging are 13x more likely to receive positive ROI (return on investment).

I'm a firm believer in the power of blogging to do two things:

1) make a difference, and 2) make money.

The most rewarding aspect of blogging, for me, as been all of the comments and emails I've received over the years that say things like...

This came at just the right time...

I so needed this today...

I've been looking everywhere for this information!

That's cool!

But blogs also make money? Yes. And the reason that's so cool is that it motivates us and enables us to keep writing and creating and serving!

Here's an example.

My blogs (I have a few of them) often mention products that are sold on Amazon - especially books.

When someone clicks one of those links, I earn a commission of anywhere from 4% to 10% on anything they purchase on Amazon within a 24-hour period of time. I've "sold" some of the weirdest things because people decided to stock up on other things while buying the book I recommended.

Amazon wound up paying me over $3,700 over the course of twelve months, direct deposited into my checking account.

The cool part is, most of that income was "passive" in nature. I wrote a blog post about leadership, referenced one of my favorite John Maxwell books, and people keep finding that blog post in search engine results, clicking through, and making a purchase long after the blog post was written.

I'm convinced that owning a blog is like owning a piece of income-producing real estate.

Here's another cool fact... Amazon is not my biggest source of blogging income. Actually, Wealthy Affiliate earns me more than Amazon, actually.

People assume that blogs earn only nickels and dimes, or that you have to be a famous celebrity, or that it's just way too technical and requires too much writing.

All false assumptions.

I'm convinced blogging is still one of the best ways you can create a passive income stream with very little up front costs - way less than buying real estate, for sure!

And by the way, it was WEALTHY AFFILIATE that got me started with the SEO and niche site building necessary to earn that revenue.
