How Not To Sell To Just Anyone

Its noon and you’re heading out for lunch. The weather is sunny and clear. Neither clouds nor rain just clear blue sky. There is a public park across from your office campus. You brought lunch from home in a brown paper bag. You proceed to walk over to the park and find a cozy spot with shade. You seat yourself on the bench to have lunch when suddenly, you are approached by a young sales rep. The sales-rep wants to share a “Business Opportunity” with you and about the company’s products. You try to be polite and explain to the rep that you aren’t interested. The rep continues to try selling you the opportunity and the company products.

At this point, you are starting to feel frustrated and annoyed. The rep continues to ignore your rejections and excuses, the rep just won’t take no for an answer. This is the kind of sales Person who comes across as being pushy and very needy. Pretty much like a sleazy drug addict or alcoholic in need of a fix. Randomly choosing and chasing down people unplanned.

This Rep is not being Professional nor are you being respected. The presentation was poorly presented and still the rep wish to continue on. This is very amateurish and selfish behavior. This sales person interest is to sell anything to anyone without research, marketing or promotional skills. This is very lazy and creates a negative image for good sales people. A good sales person would look for the “Why, Pain and Solution.” No one likes to be sold unless it is by their own choice and decision.

This mistake is made very often by unskilled sales people. They feel that Trickery or fast talking pressure tactics is the way to make a sale (Conducting Business in General). This happens mainly to an unfamiliar (Cold Customer), someone they have no relations too. Someone working with a manager without coaching or training skills for teaching reps. The best approach is to target your market. These are people that are looking for what you are offering. You need to attract your target market to seek out you and your offer. You must have your own branding (Branding Yourself). Here is an example; there are many different brands of peanut butter in your “Supper Markets.”

Product Brands like Peter Pan, Skippy, and Jiff. Ask yourself what brand you favor better over the others and why. The same for your burger and fried chicken carry out places. One place is favored over the other competitors either because of service, quality or branding. Making you stand out and apart from all other rep competitors is the name of the game. Stand out like Dr. Phil or your favorite star athlete, something about people and products create magnetic attraction. Learn some skills and bring value to yourself attracting people to gain good quality relations. Only then can you prosper, seek out your gifts and talents. We have our area of expertise. Tap into those talents and start attracting your target customers. Remember make yourself appealing to your target audience and they will come running to you.

You are more patient than I would have been, Tony!
When I don't want to be approached, I don't make eye-contact, and quickly go my way.
I get bugged, however when I do want something and have to search the store for help.
Yes, we must know our audience!
Sales and service seems to be a dying art.
When the work is mostly commission, you'll find all sorts of folks that take the job.
Good insights, Tony!

I Put up as much as I could, but I had issues with his trainer because the rep was being set up and the trainer knew it . I saw him snickering at this rep because he was just being coachable and his trainer was not leading by example , watching this poor guy taking abuse from people. I was in such a position several times myself and it was not good at all. That is one reason I decided not to trust what people like that tell me and just go my own way. May slow me up a bit but I stand a better chance at doing it the right way. 😎

That's really sad to hear, Tony.
No wonder they don't learn properly how to do the job. Shame on his trainer. I hope someone sets him straight or fires him.
He sure won't help sells or the company as a whole.
Tony, you sound like a very caring guy.
We need more young folks like you for an example. You are rare! :)
Keep on with your positive attitude!
You will be a winner in life.

Just can't stand to see people suffer. Toxic mindedness turns me off. Good People Need Protection and God Creates Angelic Soldiers.

Thanks Barb, You Are Special As Well. Peace !

That's where it all started. I just graduated from high school got my first full time job at a car dealership ,Washing, cleaning and some small repair work as mechanic helper. Went on my lunch break and was approached by a rep. His trainer was standing at a distance watching. The rep was very nervous and kept trying to sell me. I told him no and You can pretty much figure out what happened next. Yes , Jeff some sales reps just don't have no class .

LOL !!!!!!

Peace Bro !
