Do You Know How to Use Meta Tags?
Did you know that your description can be used as a meta tags?
It really can be...
Okay, we all know that your title of your blog posts on your websites can be a few words and the importance of using proper keywords and quality content. But, did you know that when you set up your SEO for your posts the description can be just as important as the content and keywords?
Stop and think about it...
Your title is a few words that should be brief and to the point to suit your content. But, your description or "meta tag" is your summary as to what your post/page is all about.
According to Google's SEO Starter Guide, it can be a sentence or two or even a short paragraph. If your content does not do a good job matching a user's search query, then it may be used as snippets in the Google's search results.
But, before you decide and start focusing on your descriptions, there are a few things to avoid.
Here are the things to avoid:
- description with no relation to your content
- generic descriptions, example: "page about blogs"
- filling the description with only keywords
- copying and pasting the entire content into the description
Obviously...
The four items I listed above are pretty obvious for most of us here. However, it can be done if you aren't paying attention to what you are writing.
Each page or post should have its own description meta tag. One last thing...using a single description meta tag on all of your pages is not a good idea.
If anyone would like to read more about this, go to Google and do a search in the SEO help pages. There is a wealth of information there to help you. Here is where I got most of this information:

Thanks for responding.
I was trying to solve a problem as to why one of my blog posts weren't being seen or recognized by Google when I happened upon this information.
Thanks for reading my post here...there was more info but thought this may be interesting to some.
