Just a quick few questions to all of you.

Has anyone had any experience with selling a domain name that their aren't using?

Can it be sold for more than it was bought for?

How can it be advertised and where can it be sold?

I'm interested in these answers you got, Sis!

Brudda

Yes, I am too. I plan to look into a few of them.

Just reading the comments that’s actually good to know

Hi Barbara, interesting question. I see szeeman has some familiarity with selling a domain name. I think cute stat has a way of checking what a domain or domain name is worth.

Best wishes,
Michael

Thank you, Michael.

I also just want to mention that there are a lot of so called free domain evaluation sites out there but lo and behold, they all come back with a different figure lol. So which one do you believe lol? But test it out and see. You can also put it on auction and then put a reserve on it should you wish and then see what happens.

It will be interesting to hear other people's responses on that. I have a domain I am looking to sell. In my experience I do not find it to be easy as most people are interested not to buy domain names as such (unless you really have a gem), but more interested in buying successful websites that is already generating income.

The problem faced is e.g. GoDaddy tells me that my domain name is worth around £1000, as a very similar domain name sold for around that much on GoDaddy apparently etc.

However the value of a domain name is in the eyes of the beholder, what people are prepared to pay, and that is what makes it so difficult.

There is no point GoDaddy gives me an estimate of they think it is worth a £1000 but I can't get it sold as no one is prepared to pay that price lol.

So as mentioned there are certain criteria maybe that can make a domain name quite valuable, but then again in the end your domain name is pretty much what others are prepared to pay for it.

You can try http://Sedo.com or GoDaddy and also http://Flippa.com There is some massive domain name place where you can advertise for free and where I used to, but I cannot remember the name now. I need to go check what it is called again. What is good about this particular place is that people also advertise there what they are looking for and you can then message them with your domain name asking if they are interested. For example someone may say that they are looking for only fitness related .com domain names that has e.g. less than 7 characters. Then if you happen to have a domain like that you can send the person a private message.

I heard some people do quite well initiating conversation on Twitter about selling domain names. So just like you would have FB groups you also have some for Twitter dedicated to advertising domain names. That said you can also advertise on FB marketplace or some FB groups that are just dedicated to people sharing domain names for sale that others may be interested in.

Hope this helps.

Ps. I will see if I can figure out what that massive domain name place is I used to advertise for free. If you have any success let me know as I have a domain name I am also trying to sell.

Also just want to mention, the problem is also that if you can hardly get good money for your domain name is it really worth paying to advertise your domain, which cost you money to do so with no guarantee that anyone going to buy it anyways? So this is the tricky part. There are ways to advertise for free, but I guess not as effective obviously than paid listings on sites like Flippa.com for example.

Thank you very much.
This gives me an idea where to start.

You are welcome.
