It's happened to me! Suffering "perfection syndrome"

Yes, so I'm about nearly 3 months into my WA membership - upgraded to Premium within the first week as I knew I would be benefitting from the extras available there.

That's fine, but since I got as far as Course 2, Lesson 5, I've somehow ground to a halt. For the last month it's fair to say I've done the best part of nothing as far as working on my website and building up the content on the r relevant pages I have so far.

And I feel a bit down about it. But I sometimes wonder if I place to much pressure upon myself or set my expectation levels too high in the beginning. I often feel I put myself under a bit of pressure or feel "guilty" if I slow down on a new venture or lose a bit of inspiration or become stuck for ideas or run out of creative things to say.

But surely this is normal?

As I was working through the Lessons, as I mentioned, I'm currently at Course 2, Lesson 5, I somehow in the middle of things decided to change the look of the site again and try experimenting with other themes and I also spent significant time on trying to create a different website title banner for the home page. I changed and messed around with things and eventually I've gone back to the first one I tried for now as I think I sickened myself a bit with trying to get things to look exactly right.

I often spend a long time working on some banner/advert/image/graphic with Photoshop to use on my website and I've seen the hours pass quite rapidly.

I have another website which is not anything connected to WA but I've had it for several years and I've always had this thing about getting everything on the site exactly the way I want it with regards to appearance... the visual thing. It's got to be right or I feel discontented with it. I'm very particular about building websites and I think I was experiencing the same "perfecting syndrome" that I tend to go through.

Before I know where I am, it's dinner time and I feel I've wasted the day achieving very little.

Am I just being too thorough and methodical at the moment? Should I just concentrate on getting my content finished and all relevant images up?

And then I start thinking of things such as: Oh, I haven't got any affiliate links up yet. I'll never get generating any income if I don't get these organised soon.

But then I tell myself I'm jumping the gun and as I work through the course these things will all fall into place.

So, I guess I'm just calling out to the community here to ask for some advice or for someone to say, Bev it will be fine, just take your time and follow the course step by step and it will all fall into place?

Does anyone else suffer from "perfection syndrome"?

Thanks for reading,

Bev

Thanks everyone. Your comment and support are very much appreciated. :)

Yeah I suffer with that and when I set out felt it overwhelming at times,, breaks are a good thing as is having a schedule to work to we are always learning and trying to perfect it all.. take you time and pace yourself

The good thing about WA is that it is not a race and things don't have to be perfect straight out of the gate it is a work in progress, best wishesBev you will go fine.

Yes....I have been there, done that ;-) I am getting better, but when I first started here, I kept trying to change themes and worked on time-consuming 'nothings'. Now.....I just walk away and do something else when I get overwhelmed and consumed with the 'nothings'. Enjoy your day, Bev!

Stay focused with the training and ask when you need help with anything. Keep up the good work and stay motivated.

Thank you so so so much!!! I thought this was only me....lol... I do exactly this....so I understand how you feel, believe me I do! I think we must do what the other comments suggested otherwise we will never be contented. Let me know how your journey goes ok?

Hey Bev, what you are feeling is completely normal. Take a step back for a moment and realise how far you have come. Go through the training section by section and everything will become apparent and you will be told when to put your links in, and where, and why, lol! Honestly, Rome wasn't built in a day (!) and slow and steady wins the race. Be sure to shout out for help if/when you need to and stop worrying! :)

Many people suffer from the same "illness". Have a look here for some suggestions
