Operation Surf for Injured Veterans

Tomorrow is the last day of March, 2017! And starting tomorrow, my favorite event to honor disabled veterans is going to be back at Capitola Beach for the next 7 days! I wrote a post about it last year, and I am going to go again this year!

Every year, Amazing Surf Adventures holds Operation Surf for seriously wounded soldiers. About 20 soldiers are selected to take part, and ASA pays all expenses to bring these soldiers to the Central Coast to partake in a week of surfing. There are over 100 volunteers that help these disabled vets get in the water on surfboards, and they stay with them the entire time to make sure they are safe!

I have to tell you that I was exceptionally humbled last year when I saw these veterans out in the water. It was such an overwhelming experience for me, that I have thought about those vets every single day since. That event also spurred me to look into tiny houses for our homeless vets. I look forward to sharing my experience this year with any of you that are interested! I will have photos, videos, and I am also going to try to do some on-site interviews. I also want to see what the consensus is from vets about tiny houses. I will keep you posted and let you know when all of this information will be available on my website. Connie

There's a project over here in the UK for building accommodation for injured veterans too. Projects like this are vitally important because our government just throws veterans on the scrap heap.
The surf project sounds like a great way to give injured vets a sense of purpose to keep them going.
Yesterday was the 35th Anniversary of the start of the Falklands war in which 255 British service personnel were killed. It is estimated that over 500 veterans of that conflict have committed suicide due to PTSD - that's double the number actually killed in combat. All totally unneccessary and the result of government not fulfilling it's responsibilities.
Anything that gives value and purpose to injured veterans and helps them to re-build their lives after they gave so much is a cause worth following.
I look forward to seeing your updates.
Thanks for sharing :-)

Good evening Connie,

I find it really admirable what you are doing. I only wish that there were not so many Veterans worldwide. Our world would be a better place now and in the future.

With best wishes, Taetske

Great. I will be waiting to hear more of your involvement with veterans, they deserve all we can give.

Great stuff! You are sainted!

Hi, what a lovely thing to do. Irv.

This sounds a tremendously positive project. I will certainly be interested to hear how this year goes. And the views about the tiny houses too. Sue :)

awsome post.. Thank you for sharing!

You and your community are to be commended for the great job for those that have served to protect our country. They deserve every fan fare and enjoyment. May God Bless you and all of your community today and always. They seem to be the forgotten part of the population starting with our government. I know this because I have a son who has been fighting for his benefits since 2009 due to the fact he wasn't deployed he was domestic serving his country when he got hurt. He received a Honerable Medical Discharge. Suffering from PTSD, Anxiety and Severe Pack problems. But enough of my problems. It's a Joyous time for you Community. Best wishes and major success on your journey and venture.

God Bless
Doris

Doris,
Thank You for the wonderful comments! I am sooooo sorry that your son is having so many problems getting all the benefits that he is entitled to!! It does not matter where one serves in my opinion! Anyone that joins the service DESERVES to be treated with respect and should be taken care of!!!!! PERIOD!!!

I am a bulldog!! When it comes to problems, I can usually get results because I never quit until I get the results I am after. Private message me and I will see if there is anything I can do to help. Also, please do me a favor?? Would you PLEASE ask your son what he thinks about tiny houses for our homeless veterans or any veteran that needs a place to live that they can actually AFFORD!! I am on a mission to start "Veterans Tiny Villages" to house all of our homeless or struggling veterans. This is a MASSIVE undertaking, but I refuse to give up!! I am just trying to see if there is support from the veteran population!! Thank You, Doris. Talk soon!! Connie
