Please Stop Wasting Your Time in WA...!

Last Update: May 20, 2014

I have been a member of WA for months now and I have had problems getting my time management skills just right beause I am extremely busy. But I think I now have it down pat.

In the morning I get up half an hour earlier than usual and I read through all the new questions I receive on email. If I can answer it I do, if I cannot and I don't need to know the answer at this point, I just delete it. If I think it will come in useful in the future I tag it as important in my emails and go back to it when I need to know about it

I now take a lunch break at work (not usually heard of), I log into my email account and follow some members posting useful information and questions, and follow back those who I wish to follow.

Then at night, when all the chores at home are finished, dinner is over and lunches for the next day are taken care of, I log into my training. Unfortunately at this point in time it is usually late and I cannot write blog posts - I'm too worn out!

Then on weekends, around children's sports and hobbies and housework, I savour the few hours I have to write my website posts and pages, as I'm usually feeling much more relaxed and able to do so - visitor's permitting. I am writing them all in draft mode and I am going to schedule them to publish after I have 10 or more "up my sleeve" which I have proof-read giving me a head start, so I can continue writing 3 - 4 a week.

This seems to be working for me. I hope it helps you to consider how you can fit these tasks into your daily schedule.

In all honesty, I wish I had all the time in the world to dedicate to my business, but I have to live in reality and do the best I can.....

Cheers

Berny

Thanks for your kind words Dave. Sometimes interruptions get in the way of my routine and I either deal with them or just learn to live with them, after all you have to live a life with others too.

Hi Berny! That sounds like a good plan. And I know how you feel about wishing you could dedicate all your time to your business because I wish I could, too! It's a lot of fun, it's actually relaxing and I feel like I'm actually adding value to other peoples' lives. I, too, have kids that play sports and do other activities and it can be overwhelming for me. Fortunately, Summer break is just a few days away and I'll have a LOT more time to focus on writing (between my regular job and baseball practices and games, that is!). Best of luck to you and hope you can get a lot accomplished!

Hi Berny,
Good post. I, too, understand what you're going through. If I get a complete 1 to 1-1/2 hours in each day, I'll consider myself lucky! Such is life!
So, hang in there and just inch forward, like I am doing.
All the best to your success... Jay

I completely understand. It actually sounds like you are describing my life. I am only aiming at 2 posts per week and even trying to maintain that seems quite a challenge.

In the end we still make a lot more progress than doing nothing.

Its at times like these reading your post that I appreciate being a man , God you're a busy Lady. and I think there are not enough hours in the day but you hold down I think a full time Job have a family and a household to run and you still make time for your WA commitments i on the other hand have all day to do what I have to do with no real distractions except occasionally I have to go and pick up my daughter from school and sometimes take her swimming but that only say twice a week I'm not trying to make you envious of the time I have each week to devote to WA but I bet with your Rationed time and my time that you probably achieve more than I do each week .

Good Luck Berny,

Thank you for your kind comments Ray. My husband and son are almost as busy as I am except they do get some "down time" each day... but saying that - I choose to be part of WA and it is my enjoyment and my personal commitment to spend my down time here; especially when conversing with people like you and other kind members here. I don't partake particularly for the internet companionship, as I work with 200 people all day, and have friends who drop in all weekend. I guess I love being amongst like-minded people - like yourself. You can achieve your goals too I am sure Ray. Sorry to say - but I do envy the time you have to spend. Could we perhaps swap just for a few months?

I have the same issues and I was having trouble with time management also. Thanks for the insight. I would like to plan my time like that also. I was thinking maybe something like so many hours for each task. I also had the luxury of rearranging my work schedule so I can now take off one day of work a week and that is when I plan on getting all my training done. Oh, and add content to my website. Thanks for the inspiration.

Berny, we are all in the same boat. Not enough time in the day no matter what else is filling the other parts. Our reality. The best we can do is make the time count. Catchy headline girl. lol. ^_~

It sounds like you have worked a miracle and found your "groove." Believe it or not, you are likely to complete just as much in your limited time sessions as someone who has hours and hours to work on WA.
Thanks for a great share.

Hi Berny! Thank you for this, it's exactly what I needed! I am going to write down your time management tips and put them somewhere right in my sight. I have had a hard time with time management lately...and it needs to stop, this is too important to me to keep letting it go even for a day. I am busy with the sports activities, job hunting, and unfortunately Dr. appts. and a surgery coming up next Thursday, so preop tests this Friday. My surgery is something that is not common but is very very important to make women aware of...so I will be doing an article about my experience and will be somehow getting it to every woman on WA. I am scared, so yes, thinking of turning it into an article to help others helps tons!! Sorry for the long comment...

Hi Lori - what a beautiful profile picture of you and your grandson. You are lucky to have each other. Please do not beat yourself up because you don't have time due to your commitments! They are beyond your control Lori. I sincerely look forward to hearing you blog about your experience, it will make all of us more aware of what can happen in life. Maybe you could start your article now about how you feel before your operation and help keep your mind occupied too. Then continue on afterwards. Just a thought! Please never apologize for a long comment... you are entitled - especially when it has so much meaning. All the best to you with your operation, I hope everything works out fine for you.

Hi John - I'll choose my words carefully "the horse is doing fine" thanks for asking. I couldn't pass your advice on to the rest of the the family, as unfortunately their senses of humor do not quite match yours and mine - if you know what I mean! Cheers for the laugh though!

You have it nailed down as to the reality for a lot of us, myself included, Berny! It is definitely a labor of love, this WA business, what with a fulltime job, family life, housework, etc., etc. There is many a weeknight my best intentions to write go for naught due to exhaustion. For whatever it is worth, you are not alone in your type of time management plan at this time.

Hi everyone,

Dear Berny.

I am really appreciate for your post here, same as me, i have to work daily 10 - 12 hours, go home and clean the house, help family with other things, So tired but ....can't get out of my head?,

Since i joined WA, if one day i don't go to my mail or my site to check what is going on, i just feel like i missing something. In the distances, i see the posts and see the discussions from all the followers and non followers.

Like i am talking live to you all, business is business, to create a good relationship with you all through this WA platform which i think unbelievable.

This WA platform keep ourselves busy for good. support each other to success is the main goal here . Experts are among us. also Kyle and Carson always help once you ask.

Love you all, you make my vision open wider and wider. Success to all of us.

Cheers!

Yay Berny, Good for you. Funnily enough this last weekend I also came to the conclusion that I needed to stop wasting my time and do something about it. I have set a few goals and may blog it soon...(if I get time :-) )
Meanwhile, onwards and upwards.
Cheers.

Hi Simon - hope you are well. I am going to try my time management plan for a few weeks then set my goals around it. I'd like to do it the other way round, but there is only 24 hours in a day and I need to be realistic yet optimistic.

Cheers

We are in the same boat Berny, if that helps at all. I know the feeling of coming home from work and feeling tired.
All that keeps me going is that I know I will make it in the end.

I know what you mean, life can get in the way sometimes. I try to block certain times in the morning and afternoon, then later in the evening after things are taken of. Everybody has to find what time works best for them.

Too true - you have to fit your business in around your life! And get some rest and recreation too! (Says she? what's recreation) - I guess for me it's WA but that is what I choose to do in what downtime I have left - and I enjoy it!)

Thank you for your comments - my life may appear like clockwork - but that's okay because that is how I work best! Put a process in place, shine it up, standardize it and sustain it. Works well with everything - the shed, the garage, the linen press, the kitchen cupboards - and of course now WA! I've been fortunate enough that my son has followed in my footsteps and is extremely organized - takes care of his own room, organizes himself for all his hobbies - karate, horse riding, bull riding, motor cross racing and Country Fire Service Cadets without me saying a thing. He's ready, waiting and organized by the time we get home from work. I guess it not what you say - but what you show. (Sometimes he's even dusted and vacuumed the house for me too - sometimes I said!) He's 15 - I can't complain.)

Well said and stated. We all need to remember there is a real life outside of WA that must also be tended too.
This is regardless of how much we tend to enjoy being here.
A balanced lifestyle will bring about a balanced life.
Take care and be well.

This is great organizational skills and truly showing us the example of focusing. Packing your lunch, getting up an hour earlier-you are an inspiration to me. I'm impressed. Keep up the good work.
