Changed my niche. So happy now! Are you?
Well, here we go, the most exciting thing happened to me over the last few days, I changed my niche!
My first niche was too general (gifts), too generic (for men), and it left me really lacking in a direction. I wanted to make money, oh yes, and I wanted to narrow it down a bit but it was such a general topic that was TOO expansive.
I would sit down and think "I'll write on this topic" about giving gifts for men, say the outdoorsy type man (which I am since I camp and hike and chainsaw, etc.) and then half way through I would think of another topic, about the gadget man (which I am), and yet again get distracted... So despite all of these types being a part of me, I couldn't really go anywhere but into a world of frustration and disappointment when in came to what to write, sell, etc. I was really frustrated because I want success very badly.
I took a little break and instead of coming straight home from work and entering into this frustration again, I would just watch some WA videos and read some posts for a couple of nights in a row, not really working on my website at all.
On the third night, I was reading someone's comment about niche... and they basically said if you are getting writers block and having trouble caring about your website, well you probably chose an inappropriate niche.
The words wouldn't leave my mind. I started thinking about the last 6 weeks and the work and training I had put into my first WA website, and realized...
To heck with it! I can always come back to that site later, but right now I need to do something I ENJOY! And what I really love to do is create art out of light. Light emitting diodes (LEDs), to be precise! There are so many wonderful things about them. A few years back I made some wonderful gifts for Christmas presents, and people freaked out on me! They were Soooo happy with them, and I really enjoyed the process of creating art.
The best thing about this niche, is that once the topic came to me... I could SEE how I was going to HELP PEOPLE!! Not help people buy gifts for men (ugh, I kinda want to puke thinking about it - LOL), but helping people make beauty!
I almost couldn't sleep that night. I was up till 4 am before a workday and I googled the heck out of the various topics needed, Jaaxy-ied the heck out of key words, loaded up all my images from past phones that I had (thankfully) kept on my hard drive... and then I went to work.
By the time I got home from my j.o.b. there was no doubt in my mind. I purchased the domain I had researched the night before and slept with the greatest satisfaction I had had since joining WA !!
Go ahead, check out my new website on my profile link. There isn't much there yet, but now the juices are flowing! Now I can't wait to add to my website, blog, post pictures, get feedback, etc.
I saw so many wonderful WA websites... and yet I felt I couldn't come close to their beauty and with my old niche, it was too expansive. It was obvious to me, at least that I was only thinking about the money I could make and not about how I could help people online.
With this new niche, I understand exactly what is needed, from basic to advanced electronics, to casting, forging, using materials from nature, using clear acrylic resins and creating unique, wonderful art for everyone to see and enjoy!
The range of my niche is almost limitless, and yet so very concrete at the same time. From bird's nests to coffee tables, you can add LED's to almost anything. From alternating rainbows of color from one little LED, to cascading waterfalls of massive displays, they all work on the very same principles, which I can break down and show to people!
I can't wait to record and edit my first video!!
So, please, if you were able to read this far, take a moment to check out my website. I just "re-booted" my niche a few days ago, but I can guarantee that it will be one to watch, because I feel so passionate about the topic.

I don't CARE about how I'm going to make money with this site. If all I do is show pictures and videos and tutorials on how to have fun with light and art, then it will all have been worth it!
You should feel the same way, too!

Those are old pictures that weren't too clear, and were gifts that I gave away. However, I'm starting to rebuild and create again and as I do I will update, give instructions, tips, etc. I'm taking clear step-by-step pictures and even video!
It's a learning process and that's what I figured out: I can help people with similar projects through all my trial and error. I can't wait to do coffee tables, ceiling and baseboard accentuation lights, etc. !

Thank you Christian. I just typed changing my niche into the help bar, due to a very similar I am having about my niche. I kind of went the other way though. I am an avid mountain biker and love getting myself stronger and fitter for the sole purpose of riding and racing faster but when I choose my niche I went for a bicycle seat website. I thought it would be nice and specific with lots of product options and I suppose I was focused on product reviews. I have not had a single moment of inspiration since starting. I don't want to talk about seats I want to talk about hauling ass. Your blog has inspired me to being open to change. Now I just have to figure out how to monetize that topic. Thanks again I will be watching.
