Yes, when they said this wasn't get-rich-quick they weren't kidding, LOL!

(Warning: This blog post is also a record for myself to remember my own motivations, thoughts & feelings, so I do roll off into some spiritual topics that may not be your thing in this post. Feel free to stop reading now. I don't want anyone to be mad at me on here, but I am just being myself, and my mind is never far away from my life's work)

One year since I started my WA blogging journey and I finally earned my first affiliate commission.$22...and it was everything I hoped it would be!

I felt on cloud nine, like I can really do this. And I can, thanks to WA.

And I WILL.

And so will you. Just. Don't. Quit!

Don't Worry, Your Journey Doesn't Have to Take So Long

In fairness, it may take others WAY less time because I sort of was doing all this for humanitarian reasons, and profits would be just a nice perk but not necessary.

Also, I had to learn the ropes of incorporating social media. As a person who stopped watching TV when I was 18 as I deemed it a waste of my life, I really, really, really didn't want to have to go out there in social media which seemed like even more of a life suck. Also, I really don't want the limelight...at all! It has always been very easy for me to grab it, but I never feel comfortable with it. Gross!

Still, my blog generates very little traffic (in part due to my niche, so don't fret about that either), and my first sale ultimately came because of social media. So social media is a MUST!

Then. I discovered how fun and uplifting it can be to connect with SO MANY people from all around the world. I'm falling in love with every soul I meet.

Now I am really feeling better about being so out there publicly.

My Niche is a Labor for Love Not For Money

And like I mentioned, my niche is not yet a hot market exactly. The niche that I am working with -- sharing metaphysical teachings to help souls grow by working with divine light in the Higher Self Meditation--doesn't have any money tied to it. I'm not being paid anything to promote this technique or these teachings.

Like most non-profits, Spiritual Arts Institute, the non-profit metaphysical school where I study these teachings, is top-notch in their purpose, their passion, their self-sacrificial work ethic...but terribly behind at promoting and marketing!

I have twice as many twitter followers, for example. And I just barely got started! They have been teaching for 50 years!

But if they couldn't do the promoting to get these teachings out there, how could anyone else who maybe is looking for just these teachings ever find them?

Well, I guess I could spread the digital word.

I felt they were important to get out there to the world and that is the major reason I signed up at WA, so they could show me how to reach people.

Only Products I Personally Use & Love

As part of my sharing of these teachings I thought I could find something else to help generate some income through ads or the like, but I wanted to find the RIGHT products that would help complement these teachings.

Or else products that would help other spiritually-minded people get additional support and a game plan for the particular areas of struggle--like their relationships or career--that drew them to try working with the light in the first place.

And I know it is perfectly okay to promote what you don't use, really! So not putting that down at all, so please don't think that I am saying that.

But another thing that may have made this a longer journey for me was that I had to maintain an exacting level of integrity in my promotions. What I think others should try and what I use myself couldn't be a mismatch.

So these HAD to be products I used. Period.

It's like Gandhi who was approached by a woman begging him to tell her son to stop eating sugar. She knew if Gandhi said it the boy would stop, but Gandhi asked them to return in 3 days. Three days later, they returned, Gandhi told the boy he should stop eating sugar, and the boy agreed to do it.

When the mother asked why they had to wait 3 more days for that, Gandhi said that is how long he needed to quit eating sugar himself first.

You see, we all pretty much agree sugar is bad for you (at least nowadays), so if we are still eating it a little but suggest others who are overdoing it should maybe cut back or quit, that isn't dishonest or immoral. It's the truth for sure!

But I set a very high standard for myself just as Gandhi and all the other great lights of the world I admire have. That is the level of integrity I aim for.

But Isn't Metaphysics & New-Agey Stuff a Hot Market?

It most certainly is if you a promoting the many glamorous tricks and psychic phenomena. But I ain't.

Did you know that you don't have to be spiritually advanced in any way to learn to do psychic tricks? That is a common misconception.

Literally, anyone can do them. Anyone, no matter their degree of spiritual development. Not that some people aren't born more developed or can't be more skilled at it than others, there are certainly variations.

And it can be fun, too, to see and experience things that are seemingly out of the ordinary.

It is also very beneficial to help awaken souls to the fact that there really is a higher life, a greater calling for humanity. That God and the "afterlife" (which is really our REAL life) exist.

The psychic arena can thus serve as a helpful starting point. It definitely serves a purpose and the good psychic souls working their art and motivated to really help others are doing this good work for the world to help call and awaken people to the greater life.

But the psychic route is not actually the mystical route, they are very different.

A lot of people who were meant for more get sidelined on the circus-floor of all that, thinking they have already arrived--spiritually speaking--when they have really just scratched the surface.

Psychic development does not go hand in hand with spiritual development, and in fact, can even start to have the opposite effect on a soul who becomes totally intoxicated by the cheap thrills of the psychic life.

And where do you think the lower forces operate? In the psychic/astral realms. That is their turf. So you have to be careful because your psychic senses can easily be fooled and manipulated.

It helps to look into history at some of the people who were most fascinated by psychic phenomena. It is no coincidence that so many of them went dark. And it isn't ignorant prejudice that inspires most religions to urge people to stay away from the psychic arena, it's just plain old good spiritual wisdom.

Calling All Old Souls

Since I am NOT promoting psychic skills, and almost the entire market of what is labeled as metaphysical is based on psychic stuff, I had a hard time finding a product that was authentic and valuable enough that I would feel comfortable using it first myself so I could then feel good about sharing it with others.

The last thing I want to do is get people headed further down the psychic road. I hope to help people find the genuine metaphysical tools to GROW spiritually and reach their highest spiritual potential in this life, not plateau or regress.

This mystical path is a much slower one, but a beautiful one. And yes, the psychic gifts will unfold naturally in time, but more than that the mystical gifts are potentially awakened if the soul was meant to achieve that in this life.

These are the gifts that bridge the gap between the faith & devotion we develop from our religious experiences and KNOWING...actually knowing God face-to-face, and all that comes with that like communing more directly with the angels. The mystical senses, unlike the psychic, cannot be fooled either.

But this is not an easy sell!

It takes years to develop to that level. Years and years and then only if it was part of your tapestry for this life. Still, nothing is wasted, so where ever you finish off now, you pick up at that level in your next life.

So you see, suggesting people give up the instant wonders of the psychic to pursue the long term, not guaranteed in this life, but still more magnificent reward than anything the psychic has to offer just doesn't draw as big a crowd.

If It Helps Just One Person

Still, I will continue on with my blogging and social media.

Even if all my life's work helps just one other person, it is worth it. Besides, I know it all comes back to me eventually anyway. If not in this life, then in a future one.

The more you give, the MORE you receive. That is a spiritual law of life.

The good news is I am very happy as a florist and would be content to do that work for the rest of my life. This is just my labor of love.

But I will forever be grateful to WA and this community who taught me how to do it well.

The WA lessons really do work, as long as you do. So go on, put your heart and soul into everything you do! Find your niche, your passion, your audience and LOVE THEM.

At the right time, your work will all come back to you magnified. So GO FOR IT!
