I have never purchase a premium theme from any company. I would like to purchase one "a la carte" from WP in order to download it to my pc, and upload it. Is there any way to do
perfect, thank you! That's what I was missing. I wanted to avoid having to do this

There's a difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org WA uses .org which gives you complete freedom to design and build a website how you like utilising the opensource WordPress system. The word "blog" is a bit of a misnomer, it's just a collection of posts, these don't have to be a diary or journal although they can be. You can rename "blog" to something else such as "news" or "reviews", etc. and have multiple blogrolls on a single site by using categories to group sets of posts. You can browse themes within WordPress, just click on Appearance > Themes and then the Install tab. If you purchase a premium theme, you can also upload it there. I'd recommend going to reputable developers such as Woo http://d.pr/Xz2Q and taking a look at their free and premium offerings before deciding. I wouldn't agonise over a theme though, you can always change it at any time in the future. Rich.
Thank you for your help but what I'm specifically asking was not really addressed. You said that if I purchase a premium theme, I can upload it. That's what i'm trying to figure out--HOW do I purchase? As soon as I visit wordpress.com, navigate to their premium themes, and select the "purchase" option, it only allows me to buy if I set up a domain name with them.
Setting up a domain name with the theme supplier may be standard practice but if it is, please let me know. I don't have a problem doing that I just want to be sure that at the end of the day, the theme I purchase can be downloaded to my pc and uploaded to MY domains, currently hosted here at WA (NOT the siterubix accounts)
You don't purchase premium themes for Wordpress .org from Wordpress .com If you find a theme you like, you purchase it from the developer's website. You'll receive a .zip file that you can then upload to your website here, whether it's own domain or siterubix. Rich.

Genesis is a theme framework and what you have found is most likely a skin for this framework. You need to have Genesis installed before you can use this skin. Get more info here: http://my.studiopress.com/themes/genesis/
