New Site Case Study - Day 1 and 2
In another blog post over here https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/autumn56/blog/its-... I asked what people wouldn't mind seeing regular updates about for a new site for me to work on. As of right now I have decided to go with the random niche on a brand new domain that I purchased last week. If anyone would like to see the other sites with regular updates please let me know and ill try to work out some sort of schedule.
I will be posting everything I have done to the site along with how many posts, how often, any social media activity, analytics, and search engine rankings when applicable. Because this is a brand new site and I am not Jay doing this on a webinar lol I will not be sharing the domain name at this time but will provide screen shots of any pertinent info.
So I created the site on Wealthy Affiliate on 5/8/2016 (the domain was purchased last week).
On 5/9/2016 I did basic customization with my theme to make the layout not so hideous. Added two widgets - one saying that the site is under construction and one with the amazon affiliate text just so that I don't have to worry about it in the future.
I also created the privacy policy page and at this point got an email from WA stating that google had indexed my site - I didn't even have to submit it myself and there is practically nothing on it and Google has already found it YAY.
My plan for the next few days:
- Set up all in one SEO
- Set up google analytics and webmaster tools (both bing and google)
- Create a header because it is within a creative niche
- Create the about me page
- Send a sitemap over to the webmaster tools
- Create a facebook page and pinterest account
- And get at least four posts up (will go into detail about this part on the next update
I do want to say that I work full time and this happens to be my days off. My plan is to see just how productive I can be if I focus and plan out a schedule on improving and growing my site.
I will be trying to do an update every Monday for anyone interested. This is my new test to see if blogging to the community will help me stay on the ball =)
Thanks for reading,
Jean

Sounds great! Can't wait to hear how it goes. I made a new site a few months ago and then abandoned it because I realized it would have the same issues as my current niche (amazon products at low price point, so without tonnes of traffic, my commissions are very low).
Anyway, I too saw that it is indexed on google and I never did any SEO stuff or submitting my sitemap to them (I don't think I even installed the site map).
Yeah the trick to Amazon is volume because your commission goes up if you sell lots of stuff and the higher rates will apply to everything sold that month
Now, if it were easy to increase that volume. Last month I had 340 link clicks, but only 24 items sold.
Jean, can you send some of that 'it worked immediately' energy over here?
☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺
This sounds interesting. I am in the throws of creating a new website as well, I'll be interested in reading about your site
sure no problem, you are welcome to pm me if you like and i will show the site so you can keep track of it as it grows =) if you think it will help you with yours - no copying of course!
That would be wonderfuli would like to see your process as you go along. And as a retired teacher, I don't "copy!" Lol
LOL yes i would imagine that has been ingrained in you! =) but i was only kidding for you of course
Good stuff Jean! You are more ambitious than me! I'm glad to see that you've started on your new site.
Hey I'm just working on my 1 site! :)
Ain't gonna be ambitious. Just falling for shiny object syndrome that's all. LOL

Did you abandon your first site?
U mean like my.very first site? ? I abandoned a few ubtil.finding a niche I liked I have two right now making consistent sales but I was slow ams slow and slow making progress in them. This is a slight practice in speed
I see. I have been thinking of abandoning my first niche as I lately find out that it was so highly competitive. But I'm still thinking about it until now.
it happens, i spent a long time trying to pick a niche adn then i finally picked one to get started, i just didnt enjoy working on a site about it so i dropped it - lots of niches are competitive which is why you narrow and focus on low hanging fruit while your site builds authority
