Hi, so I am working on setting up my website and I was trying to post referral links on my website and I copy and pasted one link into a slug? I believe I did that wrong becaus
A slug is the extension for the post, so for example if i have a page on a website called http://blabla.com and the page extension url is nice-day (http://blabla.com/nice-day) the slug is nice-day. Wordpress fills this out for you in your post, but you can change it. Never put your referral links into the slugs of your posts and pages please! It will never work.
Plugins are tools. Like adding social media buttons or adding a form. You need a plugin for this. It is not for referral links.
You can have a html widget to paste an html code for an affiliate product you wish to promote on all pages and posts into the side bar for example. Or just use text links in your post/page. You can also add them to your images (custom html).

Oh no I believe I did that by mistake. How would I know for sure if I did or how could I double check? Thanks
You need to put your Keyword in your url, I refer you to the help pages on WordPress about that or simply type it in Google, help will pop up. I am not really sure what it is that you want to do. If you can be more specific on that and I know the answer you will get it!
Okay so basically I tried to attach an ad (which was a link) to my website but I entered the link into a slug on my website (don’t even know how I got there, but I know it was under my admin settings I believe). I was told by someone to not enter a referral or ad link into a slug. So now I am trying to figure out how to remove the link from the slug.
Ashley, this is basic information and you can learn how to do that through the help pages on WP. Or google this: "how can I change the page url of my post in wordpress" which I did for you for only this time. Next time you can do this yourself okay. That is possible, but only with an html code for a certain product you wish to promote on every page and post on your website. Only use it if you know what html is. If not, learn it! It's easy, but you got to understand it a little :)
You can add text links or insert a code or you can insert a link within an image.
Its entirely up to you what you think will be best.
Do not put a link in a slug.

I have never inserted a referral link into a plugin in fact I have never heard of anyone doing it.
A Link should either be a text link, image link or a code.
It is not possible to use plugins for promoting your affiliate links, unless it's an affiliate link plugin, like there are for Amazon. You can read the help section of such a plugin how to do that.

Okay so I found where I put my referral link at on my website. I put it under the tags and in the slug is where I put the link which was incorrect so updated and deleted thanks
