Word count is NOT a ranking factor.
Hi WAmily,
We all want our content to be seen by as many people we can reach, and with the help of search engines.
People often ask ;“Is 1,000 words(or any amount) enough to rank?”
But, the thing is…
Word count is not a ranking factor.
It doesn’t matter how many words your content piece has.
This is what matters to Google (read below)
Write as much as you need to bring your message.
You write for your readers, not for search engines.
All the best,
Luc

Hi, Luc
Nice to hear from you!
Word count is not a ranking factor, but if we thoroughly answer the question and provide all the required info in an article, it will necessitate a minimal word count, which will differ for each post.
A 10,000-word article considered poor-quality, even by reader's standards, will not be ranked by Google.
I tell newbies that if their word count isn't at least 500 to 1,000 words, they need to be sure they have adequately addressed the search query. That range just gives them something to shoot for. Filling the page with "fluff" to get there won't make any difference.

The key to remember is thoroughness. Fully answer the who, what, when, where, why, and how. Some write 200 words and think they’ve fully answered a topic and then wonder why it’s not ranking. When you at least shoot for a word count goal it does allow you to push yourself to be more thorough, and that’s the key.
The ironic part about all this is that if you tried to verbally explain a topic to someone it’d probably take 5000+ words, but for some reason when we try to type it out we sometimes just can’t find those words. 😂
My experience is that most traffic doesn’t read long articles other than the headings regardless of google policy.
