Let's have our feet on the ground

Life Fulfillment starts with a reality check. As I like to say it, we have our feet on the ground, metaphorically speaking. Meaning, we are living beings and not a single one is the same as the other, we have some basic necessities of life that needs to be taken care of for survival. When I was at primary school, I learned that food, water, air, clothing and shelter are the basic ones; this was some 32 years ago. Upon some research, I find out that the length of that list varies but those five are still included per newest research. Even for identification purposes, some aspects of our body are exclusive to an individual. We may do the same action like eating or sleeping but our core beings are unique. That why we call someone an “individual” because beyond the physical appearances, even the wiring of our soul is special. This to say that our Life Fulfillment quest must be assessed from an individual point of view.

Take The Pills

When we go to the doctor for a check-up for example, let’s say, I have headache, before prescribing any medication, the doctor needs to come up with diagnostic first based on the current situation of the individual and present symptoms, or else that medication can have adverse effect or worsen the situation. Sometimes, we need to get several check-ups, deeper analysis so that the diagnostic be concluded and apply the necessary medication. What if when it comes to fulfilling the purpose of our lives, we need to do same. We all at some points have been cut off and we kind of abandon what we deeply had at heart to accomplish. Everyone wants to have this feeling of fulfilled life. There are so many small things we can adjust in our lives to start focusing on how to have a life without regrets. Just to let you know that even Forbes magazines talks about 16 Ways to Have a Happier More Fulfilling Life.

What Do You Think?

One of the points for example is to maximize your time. Easy says that done, right? This is because the reality of each individual is different. Imagine for instance a single parent working 9-5, the load of task that this individual needs to do on a daily basis and we just tell that person: «You need to prioritize your time wisely”. That’s true but how. Some say to do some sacrifices here and there but what to sacrifice. To me, we may fail in trying just to tell someone to prioritize time rather than telling the how to because in the core of that individual’s life, the reality is just another matter. Reason why many starts on the right path and failed to maintain a regular practice because of a shallow investigative information. It is essential to have our feet on the ground because there is no beautiful music in the background of our lives, nor birds singing joyfully every morning. Yet, this does not deprive us from having a purposeful and fulfilled life. A real doctor will never prescribe you a pill without proper diagnostic except the doctor is not qualify to give that care.

A short recent history of mine.

I have an older cousin that I have not met for over 20 years. WE call him Ti-Win for Winsley. He took great care of us when we were kids remembering pre-primary school when he came to pick us him. He did not have a great education but learn reading through Marvel Comic books and that was back in the late 80s. I do not know how this happened or the reason but we lost track of each other. I tried thru social media or relatives but leads to no avail. The last times we met, we were doing music together, recording in studio, writing songs. He inspired me a lot. Time goes by and here I am in Canada. I had this desire to meet him that I wanted to sincerely fulfill to show and tell him all he did for us and how thankful we are. Life fulfillment does not result to money sometimes but we still need it though 😉. So, during Mid June till End August 2022, we had a good 9 weeks vacation back in Mauritius, where we are from, and I did all necessary to meet him, but this did not happen. All my trials failed and I am happy that I tried. If I did not, I would have a lot of regrets! I am sad I did not meet him but no regrets at all, I really feel a sense of accomplishment at this time and date. When I will go back there, I sincerely hope to meet with him and I am moving forward!

Honestly, there are so many struggling. I am sure if I ask you how to prioritize your time, there will be different responses based on your reality which could be:

I work night shift and during the day I take care of family and sleep
My partner helps me lot so we manage
I need to do 2 to 3 jobs to meet my financial need
I am so much engaged that I do not see enough time for myself
My boss is an ……. That I have little time off
I have to do everything on my own, no one to help me
Thanks to my parent/Friend or family, I can have some me time
My job is flexible, I have my own schedule
I am my own boss
I have my shop where I spend most of my time
I am retired now
I work online anytime and where on my phone or laptop
I have a tight schedule and weekend I do household stuffs

That is why we need to do a life assessment and write it down. Do you know that we are able to study easier now because somebody write it down? We even have prehistoric paintings. It means that we need to write it down. Architects and businesses make plan for everything. For sure an architect or designer will start with a blank page but an individual has a past, a present and we are looking into the future where we want to go and have a fulfilled life.

A Final Note

Life is unpredictable, that is why we need to evaluate and update our goal regularly. The recent pandemic is a proof with all the government’s decision, changes in different industries.
