When Dreams become a Reality!
So, how are we coping with the 'new norm, 12/13 (Whatever) weeks into lockdown?
With the weather in the UK, on the 'shit side', been working on my blogging skills for 'the other half's Travel blog' , trying to 'think outside the box'.
Found an article on how a British Couple in 2017, went on honeymoon to Sri Lanka, got drunk 1st night and BOUGHT the Hotel, as they LOVED it so much (Wonder how much once the haze had dissapeared). Anyway it made headline throught THE WORLD!!
It created a 'Parralel with Me. In 2007', after a near death motorcycle accident in UK (10 minutes from home, how often have we heard that!) when a 78 year old man, apparently (I was out of it for 10 days) pulled out right in front of me on a main road, I did'nt brake, hit him 'midships' the Police tell me, took off and landed 20 yards down the road, smashed up pretty bad, rightside (Broken Collarbone, ALL ribs front and back broken, left wrist smashed (I hit his car to save me), black and blue everywhere. I recovered after 10 days, enough to be let home, but in the words of Led Zeppelin "Dazed and Confused"
At the time, I had a successful office interiors business in Cambridge, employing 5 people which unfortunately, as I could not continue to get work, suffered. I had had this for 20 years, but my concentration levels were such , it did for me.
The Doctors had told me in later life (I was 52 when it happened), I would definately suffer from my injuries, would in all probability get arthritus etc etc. So, what does a man do , when he's down - He GETS UP!!
The Parallel now becomes clear - Jayne and I went to Spain to see some good friends over there - and came back to pack permantly, as we had BOUGHT a Restaurant!! (No experience, No idea of working in a Foreign Country, No sense............) Used the insurance pay out for a 5 year 'Trespasso' (lease), convinced the Chef and his Moll, from our 'Local Pub' to join us , put the house on the market and 1 month later...............
We spent 4 and a half happy years, making a success of 'Playa Miraflores', Beachside , Calahonda, learning as you go. We employed Spanish staff , a German Chef (For 2nd year), a Russian Kitchen/cleaner lady and made people happy. We became known as a 'venue place', with LIVE music three times a week, Spanish Nights with a Flamenco Troup (English Guitarrista from Leeds) and carried out about 30 weddings and numerous functions for local groups, bowls club, school proms - We had certainly GOT UP! And I had a sun tan to die for. Don't get me wrong, it was HARD WORK (Working in 40 degree plus heat in August), but we DID IT!
Imagine our horror, therefore when we told to CLOSE DOWN, as the Restaurant should NOT have been there, (Tourist office, laundry and 60 apartments, all been there for 20 plus years!! We SHOULD'NT HAVE BEEN THERE!
We 'rented' a local bar down the road , until 6 months later, after talking our Landlords to court, LOST (Our Spanish not good enough), so 5 years later, I was fortunate to be asked back to start an Interiors Company in London and we moved back.
The parallel comes , not as dratically with a Blog I've just written https://jayniebtravelsblog.com/when-holiday-dreams-become-re...
Be grateful for any comments, as 'still getting up' - No seriously , out of adversity comes success! It's within US ALL!
Ciou for now

Wow, man! I was in a motorcycle accident though not nearly as bad as yours! I got up and walked away! David, your posts and experience just goes to show that you can't keep a good man down!

Thx Jeffrey , was a good un!! Still no recollection to this day of an hour before till 10 days later, apart from 5 or 6 'morphine funny moments' remember those as if they were yesterday. Keep safe buddy
Thanks, David! Perhaps it's best that you don't remember, nevertheless, you are a fine example of perseverance and willpower!

Sorry to hear about the loss of a business. You sound like someone who rolls with the punches and keeps fighting back. I wish all the best for you.
