The opinions of an over-glorified penguin

No, I'm not really a penguin - I just needed a title, and, well, that seemed to fit. But today I want to do a little ranting about certain issues I've come across, and how they seemingly annoy me.

I don't get annoyed at much, and in all honesty, they're not that annoying - it's just more that if these things continue, I'm sure to get annoyed.

Let's start with SiteFeedback

The Amazing SiteFeedback!!!

With my website taking a turn for the better (I hope), I've been trying to get more feedback about my site from people, so that I can best help the traffic/users who go to my site.

Enter SiteFeedback.

SiteFeedback was started so that you could get quality feedback about your site in a quick and efficient manner. Or at least that is what I thought it was all about.

Don't get me wrong. SiteFeedback is a wonderful tool to use to get back feedback. But, once again in all honesty, it seems to be lacking in well, let's just say, quality.

What do I mean?

I asked for general feedback for my site, and the majority of the people told me how great the site was.

I know, you're wondering, Well, what's wrong with that?

I'm not the kind of guy who wants to hear how well my site is doing. I'm the kind of guy who wants to know the areas that I'm weak in, and then try to fix them so that my users have the best experience that they can have.

I'm all for positive feedback, but I'm annoyed when it ends there. And much of the feedback that I received sort of did end there.

Everyone did have some critique of my site, but many of them seemed to only find one thing wrong. (One person thankfully listed 5 things wrong with my site - Thanks mate!).

Additionally, I then asked for feedback on my content - and once again, the feedback was really lacking.

Everyone seemed to tell me how 'informative you are, and the quality is superb" (or something like that).

I'll be honest with those of you who are reading. I know that I can write, and inform people, and write 'quality articles'. You're here, aren't you?

Once again, I don't need to know this. But I'm fine with positive feedback, provided you give me constructive criticism.

Content feedback is so much more than just a typo or adding/deleting a word (which is unfortunately all I received).

Did my content move you? Did it grab your attention? Did the images I used (if I used images) make sense with the article?

Did you feel compelled (in some way) to take the actions that I outlined in my content? Was I too stern/funny/angry in the article?

There is a lot more to provide feedback on content then just grammar and punctuation. But, anyways, I'll just digress, and move on to other issues...

Great new social media platform

Let's have a talk about WebTalk. Seen that recently? Many of the WA members seemed to blog extensively about it, and seemed to heavily promote it.

Why do I find this annoying?

When making a social media account, and marketing through it, you want a platform that isn't going to disappear in the near future. You want something that you know you can continue to use for the next few years.

You also want to choose just one or two to start out with, and not over-extend your social media campaigns.

So, how does this apply to WebTalk? I've honestly haven't looked into this platform yet, because, well, it's new. But if I'm going to start social media, I'm going to start with something that I know works - Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.

I don't care how well WebTalk presents itself, nor how wonderfully integrated it is with things. If it's around in another 6 months to a year, then I'll think about looking into it.

I'm honestly not that annoyed at people blogging about it. I'm more annoyed at getting PM's that try to get me to look into it.

I got one a few weeks ago, and then just today, a guy PM'ed me, and said (basically) "I've got a cool social media platform that I think you would be interested in".

So I PM'ed back, saying "WebTalk, right"?

And the guy was like "Oh, I guess you've heard of it already".

Yeah, buddy, I've heard of it. It's not like I live in a hole in the ground. I'm not that ignorant of the ways of affiliate marketing/social media/blogging.

Anyways, I think I'll just digress again...

That's All For Now...

Well, thank you for reading the opinions of an over-glorified penguin. If you have enjoyed this reading, please look at our other selections in our catalog and choose the...

Yeah, I've listened to too many audio books I think. Anyways, that's all I have for you guys today. Just some thoughts that I've been mulling in my head. Not sure if I really presented anything beneficial, but I'm sure y'all will be able to get something out of it (even if it's to make sure not to read anything else I write).

Feel free to like this, and/or follow me. I always do like a follower or two. And don't hesitate to give your own opinions in the comments section below.

Stay warm, stay safe. And stay away from strange over-glorified penguins who try to give you their opinions.

jenny

I'm glad to ring a smile to your eyes Jenny! Hope you life stays blessed.

Hey sleeper, Valid points about the feedback It can be a tad annoying when you personally put time and effort in to reading everything on someone's site and then giving feedback on your thoughts on their site and then all you get back when you request feedback is great site, well done.
I'm always really appreciative of a review or feedback that gives me actionable information on how I can improve my content.

I'm with you on this one!
Have a great day
Peter

Thanks Peter.

Wake up Sleeper!!! Lol
Love your outfit :)

Haha I can hear a pin drop.

Awesome post.

Can’t get my head around the whole thing but wanted to comment on :

“Did my content move you? Did it grab your attention? Did the images I used (if I used images) make sense with the article?

Did you feel compelled (in some way) to take the actions that I outlined in my content? Was I too stern/funny/angry in the article? “

OK so I’m really new to this but so far I’ve gathered that:

Ultimate motivations such as wealth, health, security, free time inner peace, scarcity, fun etc are what the target audience reading your blog really wants to benefit from.

The product/service you are promoting is just a way to give these benefits

If the reviewers don’t fall into one of your targeted audience personas, then maybe they’re just not in a position to give you the kind of feedback you were hoping for because the content won’t move them, grab their attention etc

So my first question(s) would be, who are you targeting with your blog and have we got any of those kind of people/penguins in the WA community who could provide the feedback?

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for commenting!

No problem.

I would just like to say that I appreciate your sense of humour but you have brought up a relevant point re the feedback comments. constructive criticism is helpful and I understand there are people at all different levels of development with their sites that really need that type of help, myself among them. Thankyou over glorified penguin😊

You are most welcome :D
