Unwanted "New User"

I haven't logged into my websites since 2 days ago because ocassionally I just need a break from anything that has to do with electronics and technology. I only took 1.5 days off from touching any of them.

This evening I logged into my laptop as I was deciding which website needs the most attention. When I start working online I always check my emails first (I have quite a few, so this usually last about 1 hour to go through all of them).

One of the email addresses had an email from wordpress@mydomainname.com that a I have a new user on my website. I think, ok, somebody wants to leave a comment. (I am still new here, although it has been almost 1 year since I subscribed to WA - anyway, I still have a lot to learn, and, obviously re-learn the things I forgot).

I started looking on my website in places where I thought this person might have wante to leave a comment and I cannot find anything. I think, ok, there is a lot of information there, let's just get back to what I was gonna do from the begining......As I started working on a post for the blog on that website, I just had a thought and a feeling in the back of my head about this user...and this feeling gets worse and worse to the point that I start freaking out!!!!

I start searching for the topic on WA forums but I cannot find anything that I was looking for. So, I decided to contact support and ask them about what this new user means and how they were able to register on my website!

I was expecting a reply the nexxt day, but they just blew my mind!!!!! I got a response within minute with the exact steps and information on how this person was able to become admin on my website! They also included a message in their respone that said "remove ASAP'

So.....check your Settings > General > Anyone Can Register box......If you have that checked, UNCHECK ASAP!!!!!! Once you have done that, click save and double check in your site manager that you have only 1 user, instead of 2!!!!!

Once was enough to freak me out!!!! Lesson learned!!!!
