PhD accomplished but burnt out and ready to quit
I'm not one to give up too quickly but the last few months have really taken their toll!
I had such high hopes when I joined this site but I think the realization of biting off more than I could chew has finally hit home, with a bang!
I have overestimated what is humanly possible and given myself a hard time for not being able to be superwoman and complete everything!
My position at work has been unbearable for over 12 months now, with increasing pressures, workloads and compulsory accountancy exams thrown in for good measure! I am waiting to see if my appeal for redundancy has been accepted as I am unable to travel 5 hours a day to my new location in Manchester on top of an 8 hour day of financial analysis!
On top of that though I managed to complete my doctoral degree with honours so should be really proud about that. Unfortunately I have not been able to grasp the online business world and still trying to attempt to figure out Facebook so to say I'm overwhelmed is a serious understatement!
I keep looking at my attempt at my website and not sure I have the energy left to concentrate and apply myself to an acceptable level. I feel like the mountain is just too high! My finances cannot sustain the membership fees much longer so I may have to accept that this is not my path.
Apologies if anyone reads this depressing stuff, I'm so exhausted and not usually so defeated but I'm hoping that I can turn a corner after a good rest, recharge and focus and give it another shot.

Oh my goodness! It is amazing what you have managed to juggle and accomplish so far! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am nearing completion of my Master's but I can't even imagine a PhD while working! And I don't have a long commute!
I was overwhelmed at the social media aspect here too.
I have to suggest you try Flipboard however. I have had an explosion of traffic and sales in the last two days since I set it up! I went from no sales to 10 sales in the last day and a half! I had over 1,100 people on my website yesterday alone! I had virtually no traffic before that.
It only took less than an hour to set up. All I did was create an account, set up a "magazine" which is just selecting which topic you want it in and then add a few links to your website posts.
That was it. I couldn't even add any pictures though I tried!
From that I have had 1,500 hits to my website in the last 2 days!
I hope you will try it before you decide to walk away from all this.
Good luck!
Jessica
Thank you Jessica. And well done to you too! I've never heard of Flipboard so thanks for the tip. I'm really behind the times with all this! I will need to work on my site and get some posts on there.
I just need to be able to concentrate for a while so hopefully I will get my head together over next few weeks.
Thanks for the advice and support
Amanda :)
hey amanda! i know you may not want to hear it, but seriously look at all youve accomplished so far...not with the online business but you got your doctoral degree with honors? thats AMAZING! not many people would be able to push through that, right? but you did and you made it! dont look at all the hard stuff to come ahead just realize that what you did just accomplish is HUGE! if you can do that, dont you think you can figure this out? maybe not right now, maybe not in a few month but youll come back to it and blow it out of the water!
personally, i work a lot too, and have only been able to invest a few hours for like a day a week. i feel like im moving very slow, but hey my website got indexed on google! and im excited about that!
just thought i would try to cheer you up a bit & let you know your not alone!
Danielle:)
Hi Danielle, thanks for the message. Yes I should really look at how far I've come rather than this bump I can't seem to get over!
Well done Google and best of luck
Thanks so much for the support

Hi Amanda,
I totally get it why you are feeling down at the moment. All that you've been juggling must have been a huge weight on your shoulders. If you need a break then you should take it and I might too under your circumstances. If you do decide to leave you can always return after things settle down!
Wishing you all the best,
Erica
Thanks Erica, I'm worried that I will lose everything I've done so far and then it's a waste. The fee has just been debited for this month so I will see what the next few weeks bring and maybe I can focus again. Head is spinning lately!
Thank you for the support
Amanda :)
