How To Optimize Images In 4 Easy Steps. Save up to 70 percent of space!

Hi folks, I've been trying for the past month to optimize the images as they were taking almost all the load time of my website.

I started using some fancy plugins that claims to optimize the images at the time you upload them or even plugins that optimize your current images in bulk.

But I'll tell you something. Unless you pay for the premium version of those plugins you won't get the results you would expect. The free versions are limited to "x" files at a time, only up to "y" mb per file...

And then I came up with a new strategy: optimize the images by myself before uploading them to wordpress. How?

  1. Take a bunch of images that you want to use in one specific space. For example, the post's headers. Write down the optimal size they should have.
  2. Resize: go here, drag & drop your images and select the Exact Size you want your images to be resized.
  3. Optimize: download the images and go here. After the first optimization click on the first image and set the "Quality" value to 75 (or whatever you think is OK for your needs). Click Apply.
  4. Repeat step 3 for all the images and click "Download All"

And that's all! With this process I managed to optimize a bunch of images from 2.3 Mb down to 730 Kb. And once you do it, you will regret not knowing of this method earlier!

Hope this helps. If you have a better method to do this please share it with us.

See you around,
Adrian

Very, very handy info - ever so thanks a lot

You're spot on - the free image resizes are a wee bit rubbish usually, eh?

This is gonna be very handy for me so I've bookmarked this post.

Thanks again, all the very best - Andre

I have those now and look forward to using them.

Hi, Adrian. I've bookmarked this for when I am ready.
I think this will be 'invaluable.'

I can see how it would benefit you as your site is dependent on images. Yes, I visited your site.

Thank you, in my moving forward.

Paul.
