Coronavirus Has Shut Down My Town and County

Too Close To Home

This is all getting real. Montgomery county in Texas has declared a state of emergency. Colleges are closing, all county parks are closed. Schools are closing. Panic is running a muck.

Grocery store shelves are empty, even toilet paper. The panic has started and I fear it will only get worst. One of our local police officers has been a confirmed carrier of the virus and is in the hospital now.

A State Of Disaster Has Been Declared For My County

I Fear My Business Will Suffer

Owning an air conditioning and heating service business has been my main source of revenue for the last 11 years. I fear that a customer, employee or business that we serviced will be quarantined and therefore shut operations down.

Imagine this scenario, it could really happen even to you. This would be devastating to my family and me. I hope the early precautions will help but I am not to sure it will. Is the virus really that bad? I don't know. All I know is it is creating mass panic and its economic affects could be devastating.

What do I do with my employees? Some are scared and some don't care. Some are precautious and others aren't. Its decisions I have never had to make before. Unlike the decisions I have to make about hurricanes and bad weather.

How Is It In Your Area?

How are things in your area? How is affecting you or your finances? What are you doing to prepare for possible outbreak in your area?

These are all questions you need to start answering right now. It spreads very quickly. Time will only tell how it affects my business and I hope that it doesn't.

I just had to send a message to my youth teams that I coach and let them know we will be shutting down until further notice. The Texas High School basketball state tournament has been canceled.

My daughter had a volleyball tournament last week and the girls did not touch hands with the other team at the beginning or end of the game, yet they played with a ball that everyone had touched.

My Final Thoughts

We live in a rural part of Texas where the majority of people are low to middle class, blue collar workers. There are large numbers of individuals that work in the medical industry at clinics and hospitals in the area.

This is getting very gloomy in our little town of less than 4000 people. Our local clinics don't have the tools to properly test for the virus. My father-in-law is not feeling well and he went to the doctor and he was told they don't have the test kits to test for Covid-19. This is alarming to me.

I hope this is downgraded soon but I fear it will only spread. No matter the efforts to control it, it will get worst before it gets better. My fear is not dying from it but losing my lives work and income because of it.

Any how, Wish Me Luck

Yikes! Yes, the Corona Virus has been causing all kinds of craziness in my area as well. I'm in the US also, in Utah.

Many events have been cancelled, one school district has closed with many others looking to do the same. Universities and colleges are going completely online. I went out to do some general shopping today and it was mass chaos!

I suppose we can do our best to do our part in preventing the further spread of this crazy virus and pray it won't last long and cause further damage to many lives through disrupting businesses and the like.

I really hope things work out for your a/c and heating service, that would definitely be a tough thing right now!

Wow! I hope that everything goes well for you and that yous can all stay safe and healthy. It's getting crazy out there. I've never seen places shut down due to a virus before, meanwhile we have the flu going around all year every year and go about our normal lives. It has gotten crazy!

Just today they announced that they're shutting down schools for 2 week after the March break. Probably because people refuse to cancel their trips and are still going wherever they planned to go. I know of a few people who have been told by their doctors not to go because of their medical conditions and THEY'RE STILL GOING! That's why the spread has gotten as far as it has.

If they decided to shut down and stop inessential traveling it would probably be much better.

Either way, it is what it is and there's not much we can do but wash our hands and stay away from crowds.

I wish you a the luck you need and then some for your business, Adam!

Greetings from EU;
I try to take it easy, and I don't watch the news.
But today I have visited my parents' house and the evening news talk about the virus and the precautions only.

I live in the Slovak Republic - close to the Czech border, where the situation (according to the news) is even "worse":
/Czech Rep. 94 confirmed - 0 deaths/
/Slovakia 16 confirmed - 0 deaths/

But in reality, I am not sure how bad it really is.
The thing is, I would like to see the statistic between Corona and regular Flu.

Anyways - Starting today, Slovakia shuts down the international airports for passengers (we have only 3 international airports:) )

There are checkpoints on the borders starting today. Only Slovak citizens (or people with a residency in Slovakia) will be allowed to get into the country.

International bus and train transportation for passengers are closed down.

All schools are closed for the next 2 weeks.

Shopping malls are partially closed as well - only grocery stores and drug stores remain open.

Again, I try to take it easy - the way I see it:
People staying at home will go online more often and besides the corona-news, they will check also the ways how to make money or how to start a business online.
That might mean more traffic to our websites - since we are trained on how to get to the 1st page of google :)

Stay Healthy, Stay positive and Drink Ginger tea with honey.

"this too shall pass"

Mike :)

I understand your concern, Adam. The coronavirus has shut down so many establishments and is disrupting normal operations for most businesses.

In the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, we are currently on lockdown because the latest confirmed cases for COVID-19 are from this area. And while most schools, government offices, and private sectors are closed, I still have to go to work because I am in healthcare.

But I am really hopeful that the corona scare and effects will vanish very soon. In the meantime, we just need to take all the necessary precautions and measures in order to protect ourselves and to combat it.

So just hang in there.

Hello there Adam!

Awesome to see I am the first one to comment on your post. Yep, this is truly troublesome. BUT, HOPE is on its way! Record shows the virus does not do too well in warm or hot climates. And SUMMER is just around the corner!

So HOLD ON and add your prayers to ours! The Scriptures talk about disasters as these called PLAGUES! God can wipe it out!
He has done it before, He can do it AGAIN!

Joe
