How can i display previews of my posts with the read more option on my home page? I do not want the whole post of all my posts displayed, but i would like a preview or excerpt

Leo has an excellent tutorial on how to achieve this; Creating A Static Blog Page
You can set it from your themes settings but It really depends on the theme You are using because some themes don't have options for it. I am using Hueman Theme and it has options where I can set only excerpt to show or to show some part of the posts.

Log in to your back office. Go to All in one SEO general settings scroll down to the bottom of first page and click on part page. That should do it for you.
