The Significance and Facts of a Mobile Friendly Site

At first I just took note of the information that this concern is permeating the WA community and the wider world but I did not give value to the significance it will bring on a website. As a newbie I was thinking that all what I have to do is fill my site with content and never mind some of the technicals like a site being a mobile friendly.

Although I did try to follow, just to follow but did not ask myself what significance this thing contribute to my site.

Fact One-your choice of mobile ads.

  • There was a time I asked my sister working abroad to have a peep of my site by her phone. Her feedback was there are pop ups that disturbs her to read my posts. I don't know the reason why on my laptop I don't see anything as what she sees in her mobile.

Because I cannot remember what I did in placing ads on my site if I have chosen text and display ads for a mobile or for a desktop I remove all the ads from my widgets and Theme Header and changed it with another.

What's the fact here? If you have chosen a text and display ads with a Large Mobile Banner or a Large Skyscraper it will play with desktop but it will be annoying to mobile users.

The Skyscraper Ad

The size of this ad is 300X600, otherwise referred to as half page. No wonder it will occupy almost the screen of a mobile.

The Large Mobile Banner

As you can see the size is 320x100 just smaller than the Skyscraper ad.

Fact two-your choice of a Theme

I used a theme which I liked its display on my laptop, however, to be sure if it's a mobile friendly I have to test it with my smart phone. As I said it displays well on the laptop but when I open my site on my mobile as if I am not in a website. It looks like I am reading a book and I have the difficulty in navigating the menu and pages. When I search for my posts by going to the pages it doesn't display the post titles where I should be searching for articles to read.

Again, because I've tested it myself and I've found out that the theme is not best for mobile I have to changed it for a better one.

Facts are sometimes concealed and we have to discover it by ourselves.
As a learner and a beginner all I thought was everything is good, everything fits but the truth is not. You have to do testings so you will know what is appropriate from all that is available around. There are facts that does not suit our needs but they are ultimately good for others.

Significance of a mobile friendly site is absolutely essential.
We are in business and we are dealing with people. What is essential for everyone is, we-the website owner and our audience-the readers and seekers of truth about what they need online must meet to where the right understanding of something agreed upon is funneled.

Monitoring the result of Google AdSense daily report on my site visitors and earnings this week, it show that most of my visitors come from my country, United States, Australia and Finland which use high end mobile devices other than desktop.

Significantly our earnings will be affected and the education we wanted to impart to all people around the world will not be effectively channeled if we do not have a mobile friendly site.

Good day to everyone.

I have a different challenge and one I still don't truly understand. My site is better on a mobile or tablet than it is on a desktop.
You are right it is down to us to work out and understand the challenges but Boy it can be hard.
With Grace and Gratitude
Karen

Good to know you've chosen the right applications for your site that cater to the widely used mobile phones anywhere around the world.

Thanks for pointing all of these facts out as a reminder of how important it is that our websites fit our mobile devices. It's a good thing your sister saw what she did and told you.

Some cell phones are smaller than others and we have to remember that also. Themes being mobile friendly is important also, I'm glad mine is. Every time I publish a new post I check my tablet and cellphone.

I respect your humble sharing your unique experience online which is bound to happen to someone else inside WAers.

Thank you Sir. I hope it helps.

Great info Jimmy. I like the ad formatting!

Thank you Mike I never thought I need a mobile friendly site. The good thing I had just bought a smart phone which I am using it for testing. Of course with the help of friends in different parts of the world.

Thank you for posting this. It is so true as I found out only yesterday.... Unfortunately for me, your post is a day too late, but hopefully for others it will help avoid my mistakes.
Thank you again for sharing.
Gail

Never mind Gail even it's late I just thought it would be worth sharing my recent experience. I just checked your post which I missed yesterday. Anyways, we are two who took the concern on having being mobile friendly site. Information from experiences will help guide the community especially the newbies like me.

You are not late - I was just not up to speed! :) And you're insight is excellent in the post - mine is just a warning of what not to do! Ha ha!

Every information serves the purpose. There is no superior and inferior in rank.
