How do you focus when Hollywood invades your back garden?

Slight exaggeration - we don't have a back garden, more like an estate car park, but you get the drift.

So I did some Pinterest training which suggested that board and pin titles and descriptions should be fully optimised with keywords, emotional adjectives, rational, hooks, and big promises to the viewer.

I also learned how important it is to recycle and update old content on social media channels and on your site, so that your old work isn't forgotten or wasted. As a pinterest newbie, I had a lot to learn. So this is what I did:

Each of my pinterest pins reflects a post on my site, and for every pin, I've created 4 pin titles, 4 pin descriptions and 4 images, along with the corresponding website post link. No cramming or stuffing, just clear flowing sentences with fresh new images.

This method allows me to bulk upload slight variations of the same content to tailwind and then schedule the pins to be pinned to my pinterst boards each week over a month.

And all of that is what I have been doing for the past 5 days..not quite the '5 minutes of my time' the mentor had promised, but I am glad that I am doing it now instead of when I have hundreds of posts on my site to create pins for. Going forward, pins and their titles and descriptions will be created BEFORE the corresponding website post.

But this morning, Haley Berry, Jason Statham et al., are shooting their new movie at the back of our apartments... I'm struggling to focus.

Update: I finally got to watch the movie on Netflix.

It's called UNION and Jason Statham was nowhere to be seen. Mark Walberg is the star of the movie. I wonder why they gave us fake information ?? Anyway the movie is decent and has lots of shots of the area where I live so I had fun pointing out local venues :))

I want to go out there and watch, and get autographs, hand out trays of coffee and tea (like they do in films), and perhaps 'hang with the crew', but I can't because these titles, descriptions and images will not create themselves, and it's already taken long enough as it is.

Also.. I can't because the swarming security would NEVER let me anywhere near the crew in the first place, but that is not the point.

On another note, I'm thinking of launching a YouTube channel for my first site - I wonder if I can borrow their top-of-the-range lighting equipment for my videos....now that would be cool (and would also only happen in my dreams).

I will stay focused, I will stay focused, I will stay focused....

Hi Abumchi,

Just seen this post, I know it's from a few months ago, but wanted to say - I feel your pain on the distraction of having a film crew so close.

I had the film crew for Cameron Diaz/Jamie Foxx's movie Back in Action filming in my backyard (field) a year or so ago. The scene where the helicopter takes off was done over 20 times, and the helicopter's noise directly above my house was intense each time it took off, whilst they tried to get it 'just right' - that scene in the movie is at the end of my garden!

Plus, the number of people involved in a film set is insane, and they work pretty much around the clock at each location. We had them here for around a month, and they just took over!

The Union is a pretty good movie, action-packed! HB and MW work well together.

Regarding your Pinterest posting strategy, your point about recycling and updating old content is really important. Something I try to do on a regular basis, and it makes a great difference to my pins' popularity. In fact, I must spend some time updating some pins soon. Thank you for the reminder!

All the best,
Cherie

Hey Cherie,
So you know how we feel about film crews around here... exciting but annoying.

Our area is used for filming A LOT. They do inform us first, by sending out letters to all the residents in the area, just a few months before filming starts (we recieved another one last week).

But, it's really just a 'Hey guys, this is what we are going to be doing around your manor, so try not to get in our way' type of letter.

The area is said to have 'character and history', but I think that is just an excuse.

Okay I probably sound a bit whinny. To be honest, I actually love living here, it's a a business and cultural hotspot. Right now, (even better with this gorgeous weather we are having), there are festivals and street partys of evey description.

I can pause from creating site content, pop my head out of the window and boogie with random strangers, and then get back to work again - good times!

By the way this sentence got me well-jealous:

"The scene where the helicopter takes off was done over 20 times, and the helicopter's noise directly above my house was intense each time it took off, whilst they tried to get it 'just right' - that scene in the movie is at the end of my garden!"

I absolutely LOVE helicopters!! My Youtube account is packed full of helicopter aerial manoeuvres (military and stunt performances).
I think helicopters are beautifully machines - Airwolf started it !!

I've haven't watched Back in Action - it's now on my to-do list, thanks for that.

oh and....

I abandoned that site a while back - I love sewing and arts and crafts in general, but I don't love blogging about sewing and arts and crafts. I just want to selfishly enjoy that experience by myself.

When it became a chore to sew and share, I took a different route, and now I am working in a different niche.

I really need to start working on the new Pinterest account, that is earmarked for August. For now I am absorbing Jay's traffic training and implementing as I go.

Hope the weather is gorgeous where you are.

Cheers

That's still really cool that they are filming a movie in your back yard!

To be fair, the area is used A LOT for film, especially action / espionage type films, but we are very close to the action this time.

Cheers :-)

That's awesome, Abumchi!

Jeff

You are keeping focused on your site, doing the right thing. The rest is interesting, but just fluff. Sure, take a little time to enjoy the spectacle outside your window, but remember that's not real. Your site is.

2

That's just good advice - which I appreciate.
Thank you :-)

What a great foray into YouTube. I couldn’t think of a better entree into YT than filming the filmers.lol.

Right?

I got some video footage, of the car stunt moves (very understated and a little boring to be fair), but what a great idea - thank you.

Hello Abumchi,

I love how you have written about your learning strategies on Pinterest!
I love how you totally engaged my attention with the events in your backyard.

Awesome thanks for the tips!

Kind regards
Erica
