Use of Private Messaging - Gentle Reminder About SPAM
It has recently come to my attention that perhaps a reminder is due on use of private messaging inside of WA.
No Spam
Private messaging is a private communication between two members for the purpose of assisting each other on WA. It should not be used to promote websites or products via affiliate links.
In general, it is for mutually agreed upon communication between members and/or for mentoring.
Rule of Thumb
If you are not sure, do not send it.
Here is a training article from Kyle on the best practices:

Rule #1
"1 - No unsolicited messages promoting products, services, or outside communication to be sent through private messaging. This will lead to immediate removal of your ability to post anywhere within WA."
This rule is pretty clear and fairly strict; we recently have several new members. Something occurred today that prompted me to send these two internal WA links as reminder to members or to promote awareness to newer members about proper use of private messaging.
Rule #7
"7 - No adding affiliate links to any blog, training, discussion or private message"
Pretty self-explanatory and clear - great reminder.
What to Do if You Receive SPAM via PM?
If a member does not recognize or know the rules, simply pointing them out to them might be sufficient to correct the problem and stop it from recurring. I prefer to presume innocence at first, as reporting someone could lead to loss of their progress for a mistake they might not be aware they are making.
If, after pointing out the concern, the problem persists, there is a way to report spam under private messages using the drop down menu and you are certainly able to block the member from sending further communications if that is your preference.
Community Support
The give and take feedback thread, site comments and site feedback venues are all valid ways to reach out for community support and progress and you can certainly learn a lot from these safe and effective ways to foster the growth and development of your website and positively contribute to others!
Remember, we are here to protect and guide each other along the way~

Its a good reminder and good to let new members know someone shouldn't be promoting their stuff through WA to them.
When you first join you have no idea about things like that.
