Writing product descriptions can be tough. The more thought you put into the site content the more likely you are to ramble on and on about your product. It is easy to get caught up in writing a lot but saying very little that inspires your reader to push the BUY IT NOW button.

If you are just learning to write site content/product descriptions then you need to learn to write in a condensed format. Your average site visitor will decide within 10 seconds if they stay on your page. You have mere seconds to attract, educate and inspire them to buy from you.

An easy exercise to get your creative content juices flowing is to write a Product Review about a product you use and like. Imagine your review has a 500 words limit so you need to create a quick, descriptive draft to share your experience with other potential buyers.

Now, set a timer and give yourself 2 minutes to focus on the product and think of why you like it. Don't write anything yet, just focus in you mind on WHY you like this product. Now, set the timer again and give yourself 2 minutes to write bullet points on every aspect of WHAT is so great about the product that you like.

If necessary, just write one or two word bullets llike: assembles quickly, time saver, glides smoothly, deep cleans, super sticky, clings securely, sweet and tangy, easily adjustable, etc. Write whatever comes in your mind about the product for the full two minutes. The more you write the deeper your associatiion will go in pulling out the best words to use in your description.
.

OK, your 2 minutes are up! What did you write? ..What words or word groups can work with each other to describe your product? You may be able to use your own 5 senses (sight, earing, smell, taste, touch) to seperate your words into groups that will really target different appealing aspects of your product. You can use your word groups to make sentences that describes the product in a way your audience identifies with.

Want to verify that your new site content is a contender for the other content descriptions on the web? Do a look up on your product and read the manufactures description. You also want to read other reviews written about your product to find other feature points to use. Congatulations! You have brainstormed a rich key word base to create great copy that is is unique for your product promotion.

Remember start with YOUR OWN WORDS. Your site visitors can tell between words that HELP make a decision and those that HYPE just to drain their wallet. Original copy stands out from the cookie-cutter content that others use. Your content will always be fresh and inviting. Be real. Be orginial. Your readers will respond and your affiliate commissions will show it!

BTW, this post comes in at exactly 499 words. You can do this! =D

Hi Mary, thank your for your comment! Timing your writing time is a way to activate you to "write from your gut" and not overthink your writing. Is is also much eaiser to write from your own experience and then modify it with additional information gleaned from manufacturers and product reviews. I've churned out many, many product descriptions over the years and this method has helped me tremendously.

I found this post really useful so thank you!

Helly Jai, thanks so much! Glad it helped you.
