First thing I say you have to decide is whether or not you will use a page builder on your site. If your unsure what a page builder does here's a quick rundown.

I am someone who hates coding and knows absolutely know nothing about coding (when I started) So I went the page builder route which is basically a plugin that allows total customization of your site but no coding is needed, it's basically dragging and drop. Most of the page builders are also front-end editing done in real time so that you see exactly what the finished project will look like.

Tere are several free page builder plugins such as Elementor, Beaver builder, and Divi to name a few. For the free ones, Elementor is probably your best bet and also has a fantastic PRO (paid) version. Beaver Builder is the best bet for a paid page builder but is also on the pricey end.

With the page builder plugins, they have several themes dedicated to the plugin which utilize SEO tactics and keeps them very light and fast. That being said the more fancy options you use (which can be very tempting) will slow down your site but if you keep the bells and whistles to a minimum, you will have no problem.

Once you decide whether or not you will use a page builder now you look for a theme in amidst the sea of thousands of choices, so which is best? First look for a theme that has lots of downloads. Even though a theme has said half a million downloads, with your own special touch and image your site will still stay unique from the rest so not to worry.

Next, you want o make sure the site has been updated lately, I would say at very least in the last six months it has been updated at least once. Next, make sure it has what you require for your vision of your site. Then read some reviews and see what people say about the developer and their efforts. Has the theme been optimized for SEO and is it lightweight.

Next I would always start with the free version to see if you like the base features if so you probably will like the paid version which could be a great future investment. So take the theme for a test drive. A lot of the page builder recommended theme also come with premade templates. OceanWP works great with all page builders and is fully optimized for Elementors newest release. They have about 30 niche designed templates that you can download for free and simply drag and drop your content and images as the design is already done for you. This really speeds up build time and is already optimized for your set niche. Why not piggyback on something that works at first and then customize as you become comfortable.. Generate Press is another super easy theme to work with and is designed doe page builders.

I hope this has helped a bit. I am sure everyone has they own technique to this. Mine comes from someone completely new to this industry and has learned from mistakes that I made. I found that starting with a page builder just offered the most support as there is step by step videos to do absolutely everything you can imagine for your site. It allows people who don't want to code or don't know how to code. I also found this route helps you grow and introduces you to new things. They are also highly integrable with many other plugins in ways of security, analytics and RSS feeds to name a few. So for a noob who knows nothing, I say this is your best route to start with. Happy affiliating!!

WOW! Jair, you wrote a stand alone lesson! Thank you so much for helping me. I will be hanging onto your note to review as I go through this. You are a really big help!

Anytime Sue. Just remember, I am really bad at replying back to posts but am really on top of my inbox messages. Happy hunting Sue!!

Two other things that I have recently started that has really helped me are first taking themes for test runs with plugins in our free extra webpage spaces.

What I mean by this is I will develop a totally new website under the @siterubix.com prefix but I will not publish it, I will keep it as a draft. Here I will test plugins with other plugins to ensure there are no conflicts before adding something to my current site, so if there is an issue it won't affect my money maker. I will also experiment with the different options the theme has and offers all away from the public eye.

I usually have about 5-7 @siterubix sites all being built in drafts whether simply for testing plugins against my main site, simply test driving a new theme, working on the next project but trying different angles for it or simply keeping something on the backburner that I read about or heard someone mention previously. The @siterubix platform becomes my scrapbook or doodle notepad if you will.

Finally and most recently, this new technique although takes a little time to setup, it has helped really reduce build time and narrow my choices with all the best data being present in one place. As with Theme and Plugin developers, a lot will work in cohorts with one another to create a better business relationship and in turn create a better product.

So, in Google sheets or excel or any spreadsheet software create a list of themes and plugins that you have used and tried out. List the developer's name and usually, if you read into their bios or even product descriptions, they will recommend certain plugins or themes that their product works well with. The more data you input and write the correct formulas for, the spreadsheet will start to spit out liked pairs so when you find say a certain theme you like or want to use it will give a list of other companies or developers that this certain developer or company works best with so you can pre-pick the plugins without having future issues. You also get to learn the names and what works with what without even using the spreadsheet just from entering the data.

This little bit of time invested really helps save a HUGE amount of time in the developing stages of your website as you don't get stuck in that window shopping state that you are probably experiencing now and you also prevent the future conflicts. This is a new technique that I have designed and am still perfecting as I suck with spreadsheets but so far has become invaluable to me thus far. I just wish I had thought of it or was told about it much sooner.. My mother once told me a saying that I live by and that is, "you don't have to be smart in this world to be successful but it sure does help." So I have become a firm believer in working smart, not hard which in my mind is the greatest success of all.

Hope this helps you out Sue oh, and you'll learn that whatever I write, it always turns out a novel but you can always find something useful within it. Happy Affiliating Sue!!

You are now making me smile because you really do write so much information that it's like taking a course! I am presently a little los, but looking forward to absorbing it over time. That's why I'm printing out and keeping your messages. Have you ever thought about being on the teaching end of all this? You'd be great.
Thank you, Jair!
Sue

Thanks for the great compliment but I think I need to learn more before I can teach this stuff. So in the meantime, I will just share my experiences. I think part of it is I have done a lot of teaching and Instructing before. From Bartending to wine courses to sailing to drifting to training dogs just to name a few. I was also married to a Kindergarten teacher so I have always understood what is needed to be understood if that makes sense.

Rather than waste all your ink what I found really helped me was to keep a well-indexed list of bookmarks in my browser and in the WA search bar. Here's a link on bookmarks. I also believe in helping anyone who wants to learn any way I can, it's my way of paying it forward as I was where they were once and I would just like for people to still help me in the future the same way I help others. As always, my inbox is open and I'll end this now before it gets too long. (strange thing is I am actually a very quiet guy of very few words not that you would guess that from my texts lol

So again. Thank you for the info but also for making me laugh!

Any time love, any time.

You’re right there literally are hundreds of themes to choose from. Make sure to read the review which gives you an idea what theme is most suited to wether that be a blog, ecommerce store or magazine.

It really is about making a choice that resonates with you and the best thing is if you don’t like it, you can change it.

Good luck and go well...

Thank you! I will give it a try.

Hi! I finally figured out my domain name and paid for it, but now can't seem to get back to the themes! I know I must be missing something really simple....
Thank you!

In the WP editor, go under appearance and a theme section will pop up and there you go back into themes. Need any other help, my inbox is always open. Happy affiliating.

-Jair.

Ummm, where is the WP editor? Thank you Jair!

Go to siterubix in the menu on the left side, the sort of turquoise button, then go to sitemanager and sign into your site. That takes you into the WP Editor for your site. Then go into Appearance and another menu pops up and I believe that "themes" should be the first option.

sorry for the tardy reply, I was helping someone else. I always reply to my inbox before my notifications.

Thank you! It helped!

Are you using a page builder like Beaver builder, divi or Elementor? I can recommend some really good lightweight themes that are very functional and come with premade templates. You can literally build a website in under 5 minutes minus your content of course. PM if you would like them. All the best love, and have fun!! The building is my favorite part.

In your wordpress editor go to appearance > themes, then add new to search for a new theme if that is what you are looking to do

Thank you too, hagstf! Now I just need to figure out where the wp editor is....

Click on the blue SiteRubix button to the left, then click Site Manager, log into your site and you will be in your wordpress editor and you will see appearance in the left menu

Thank you!!!
