How to Edit or Change Your Post's Url or Slug
It's time for your daily dose of Wordpress Wisdom! In today's quick tutorial I'll show you how to edit or change your post's url or slug. Sometimes after you've created some content and published it you realize you need to make a change to the title. Well that change won't be reflected automatically in the url. That needs to be done manually and I can show you how :)
As always, please feel free to share this video to anyone needing help with this. If you have any Wordpress related questions that you'd like to see me create a tutorial around feel free to send me a private message or leave me a message on my profile.

Another great tutorial Eric! So, I found this out recently when I changed one of my post slugs... WordPress will automatically redirect the URL of your old post to the new one. But the automatic redirection feature only works with blog posts, it doesn't happen with pages, category links, etc.

Hey Eric, thank you.
Excellent training to the point!
Question: My site is still very new. I only have 4 published posts at the moment and the one I want to change the URL was published in April 2024. What do you think?
Regards,
Monica
If youβre going to make a change itβs better to do it sooner than later and since the content is very new the SEO impact from the change should be minimal. Just make sure you have redirects in place so the old url points to the new one. ππΌ
Hi Eric,
Thank you for your response.
When you mentioned 'redirects' are you talking about internal links from one content to another content within my website?
Regards,
Monica
A redirect is when you change the url of an article and make it so the old url redirects your audience to the new one, that way if they type in the old url they don't land on a 404 missing content page, they land on the new updated page.
Ummm, ok, got it!
Thank you, Eric. I changed the title while keeping the same keyword instead of changing the URL.
Have a great evening and Happy Fly-Day (Japanese Air Force Day π)

Monica
