Affiliate Marketing and Dopamine Addiction.
Affiliate Marketing and the Problems of Dopamine Addiction
I wasn't going to post again for a couple of months but believe this is important. I am normally not this serious, but this in an issue anyone can easily fall into. Check yourself and see if you fall into this category. I have included a link to a video with a short quiz that helps you identify if this affects you...
And Yep, a lot of this is AI content, but still extremely relevant.
Read it You Dopamine Addicts. lol.
Affiliate marketing is an exciting, fast-paced way to earn a living, but there's a hidden downside many people don't talk about—dopamine addiction. It happens when we get hooked on the constant rush of checking notifications, tracking clicks, watching sales grow, and chasing that next viral post.
Every ding and stat update gives the brain a little hit of dopamine, the “feel-good” chemical. But over time, our brains start to crave more stimulation, and suddenly, it’s hard to focus, relax, or even feel satisfied with normal, everyday things.
This kind of addiction sneaks up slowly. You start refreshing analytics just once a day, then it's every hour, then every 10 minutes. It feels productive, but it’s not. It drains mental energy, clouds decision-making, and ironically, makes us less effective at the very work we’re trying to do.
Dopamine Addiction Video and Quiz
One way to reset is to regularly disconnect. Seriously—try spending one or two days a week without any screens at all. No phones, laptops, or even smartwatches.
Get outside. Walk, hike, garden, or just sit under a tree and breathe.
It sounds simple, but it’s powerful. When we unplug, our brains get a break from that constant dopamine drip. We stop chasing and start thinking clearly again. Creativity comes back. Focus returns. We remember why we started this journey in the first place.
Reconnecting with nature isn’t just good for the soul—it actually helps boost productivity during the rest of the week. So if you’re feeling burnt out or always wired but tired, maybe it’s time to step away, even just for a day.
Your business, and your brain, will thank you for it.

Good morning Steve,
Thank you for your post and video, I did watch the video.
I believe it shows the importance of being careful how we use technology in getting the balance right. I will often use a timer on my computer to remind me of how quickly the time is going. I also think it's important to move away from the screen, whether it's a phone or PC and just to relax for a few minutes.
Today, I need to go to the post office, I'll take a walk across the fields, which will be about a 4.5 mile walk. It's important to get the balance right, which is easier said than done.
Incidentally, using a timer and the Pomodoro technique, helps me to realise how quickly time is ticking by.
Wishing you all the best and a great week.
Roy
I don’t hit the computer until I have done a couple of hours of exercise and a walk outside.
I now spend 1 day a week talking, hehe and sometimes drinking, with friends.
We can become very anti social with the very things that are meant to connect us.
And yep, love the pomedero technique.
Thanks for the comments.

That sounds like a good thing to do, Steve! I must admit, when I get up in the morning, I am in front of my computer, but not working properly. I normally look at the news and carry out a bit of reading as I wake up, and then have a glance at Wealthy Affiliate. I'm about to take the dog out for a walk now after being several hours in front of the computer.
It's definitely good to take a day out and do something completely different, Steve. I really believe that doing that makes you far more productive long-term.
Yes, that's so true, we can be antisocial and highly engrossed when we get in front of the screen.
All the best.
Roy
I have Parkinson's. Watching the video completely was a challenge due to the numerous inaccuracies. My brain does not produce enough dopamine for my body's daily requirements, which impacts my ability to move my muscles, sleep, talk, and eat, as well as affects my cognition and mental health.
The video only "talks" about dopamine as the "happy" hormone. There are many others as well, such as endorphins. The video also focuses on negative behaviors that trigger dopamine "drips." In the Parkinson's community, we are encouraged to engage in positive activities such as walking, exercising, and gardening. These healthy activities release dopamine. Thus, I don't believe dopamine addiction is a real thing.
The video accurately highlights the need to change behavior. There are many different aspects involved in developing an addictive or compulsive behavior. So, focusing on dopamine makes no sense.
Bottom line: Change your habits if you are feeling overstimulated by your phone or social media. Look for help with cognitive behavioral therapy.
Glen 🙂
Sorry to hear about your Parkinson’s. We all have our own battles. The video highlights one aspect of dopamine addiction. If I tried to cover everything the vid would run for hours and nobody would watch it. The message was for the average person and I suggest you talk to your Doctor for personal advice.

Thanks Stevoi, I am familiar with this working most of the day with tech.
Nothing better to clear the head than taking the dog for a walk in the forest down the road for an hour or so without the phone!
And the dog loves it - her sort of stimulus!
I do the same, I have a Multi Poo, and the name is sooo true, and everytime I go out he jumps all over me..lol.
