In my first blog post, I discussed the three key factors required for success with the ancient Chinese wisdom. I was amazed to read Megawealthy9’s comment on the second factor of “advantageous locality.” She obviously knows a lot about the Chinese ancient art of Feng Shui, and is able to wisely apply it to the reality. Since I came to the US 10 years ago, I have found that there are many Americans who are knowledgeable of and interested in the traditional Chinese culture. I think this is a good sign. We people do need to know each other better in order to build a friendlier and more peaceful world.

Knowledge eliminates bias. Being without bias brings people a broader view of the world and a fresh understanding of our human life. Modernity, armed with science and technology, has created a lot of bias or arrogance against the traditions, labeling them as obsolete, backward, or superstitious. The art of Feng Shui for a time was badly stigmatized as pseudoscience.

Fortunately, since the 1980s, the traditional Chinese culture has been reviving. More and more Chinese are now aware of the importance of the traditions. They have begun to reexamine the values of many of the traditional arts, including the art of Feng Shui. Nowadays, when people are looking to purchase a burial site, buy a new home, or open up a business at a certain place, they would tend to consider the elements of Feng Shui.

The principle of Feng Shui is very sophisticated. But the basic idea is rooted in the principle of yin-yang interaction. Yin is the negative qi (energy), and yang, the positive. In a place, if it has more positive qi over the negative, it is believed to be advantageous in terms of fostering people’s health, contentment, and prosperity. A Feng Shui master is the man who is trained in the ability to analyze and determine the positivity of a place from its particular surroundings.

Feng Shui literally translates to wind-water in English. The wind refers to “dynamic”, and the water symbolizes “resource”. So, when a place is invisibly full of force and resources, it naturally boosts people and bring you good fortune.

But how come a certain place bears good Feng Shui, while the others don’t? This is a complicated question, depending on numerous matters. Most Feng Shui masters may know it is so, but don’t know why it is so. Some wise masters may reveal the truth that the fundamental element that decides good Feng Shui is nothing but our heart and mind. A good place is either naturally blessed by gods, or left by nobles, or lived by kindhearted people. It is the energy of positive spirit that generates vitality.

Modern science, like quantum-mechanics, is beginning to verify the truthfulness of Feng Shui art. So, it is a science, not a so-called pseudoscience. We need to walk out of a lot of specious conception upheld by the mainstream opinions.

Our mind and thought are the most important factors in deciding if we succeed or not. That is why the ancient wisdom stresses that locality is less important than human resources. And that is why I said being involved in a helpful community is the most fortunate matter in my trying out online business.

Does this concept also apply to a location such as a country, state, or city? Can a town have a negative energy surrounding it? And what might the cause be. Very interesting, and it's nice to meet you.

Certainly yes. That is why education is so important. Good education is not supposed to be only about finding a job, but about enhancing humanity -- the positive spirit that generates vitality for a nation or a community. This is the core in developing a good Feng Shui. The historical legacy mostly decides the Feng Shui of a town. If a town once experienced some negative or even terrible historical events -- massacres for example, the Feng Shui can hardly be good. Yet, if it ever has nice and powerful persons move in, the Feng Shui tends to change. There are already existing places of good Feng Shui, and there are places that people go and make good Feng Shui. If you pick a good place for home or business, yet your behavior is pretty negative, you tend to little by little spoil the originally good Feng Shui. All's by the power of mind and heart.

Nice to meet you, too!

I just finished some home improvements regarding doors that should not be in line with each other on recommendation from a Feng Shui Master. Some little possive results already came in place.
Have a great day

Good for you! This is great! Thank you!

When I bought my new home in Las Vegas in 2005 I had a Feng Shui master analyze it. It was very interesting.

Good for you, sir! I presume you still enjoy your home.

Me again, Zhi. :-) Here it is, the blog post I have written thanks to the idea you gave me! :-) Thank you! Nathalie

Excellent blog post, Zhi! Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with us!

In addition to everything else I have done in my life, I was also recently trained as an electrician (I knew it would be fun!) and took an extra course about natural and man-made electromagnetic fields and their influence on the well-being of humans, animals and plants. The scientific knowledge I came across in these courses have shaped my current understanding of the world we live in.

I do believe that there are "logical" explanations to Feng Shui... it's just that we humans are not evolved enough to understand them... because they are out of our realm of visual perception...

Let me explain... let's have a look at the electromagnetic spectrum...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_spectrum

it goes from a frequency of 3 HZ up to a frequency of more than 3000THz (for X rays, Gamma Rays and Cosmic Rays) (a THZ is 1 000 000 GHZ). That's a HUGE spectrum!!!

Within that spectrum, humans can only see frequencies from around 385 THZ to 750 THZ. That's a TINY part of the elecromagnetic spectrum.

Humans CANNOT SEE frequencies from 0 HZ to around 380 THZ, nor frequencies from around 755 THZ to 3000 THZ and above...

Well, I mean... most humans... some people are reported to say that they see things that others don"t see... I am not saying they are telling the truth or not... I am saying that giving these numbers, why would I be surprised? And some animals have also been reported to see things that we don't (especially in the dark) and feel things that we don't (like an upcoming earthquake or tsunami).

Personally, I LOVE to "reconcile" Western modern knowledge and ancient Eastern knowledge. I would say that Feng Shui is a way to take into consideration the invisible part of the electromagnetic spectrum to our advantage. :-)

My understanding now is that Western "science" is still VERY young and limited in comparison to traditional knowledge developed for thousands of years in traditional cultures.

I think this is so important to understand for most Westerners... I am going to write a WA blog post about it...

Thank you for the idea, Zhi!

Have a beautiful day!

Nathalie

Beautiful and inspiring! Will write more around this topic. Thank you so much!

I agree, there is a lot more to the world than the current science can explain. I have practiced the Konmari method, which has a lot in common with Feng Shui. It has changed the energy of my home, and thus my own energy to a more optimal direction. Which is also allowing me to focus on building my business. So I´m very grateful I found this method.

This is great! Can you drop me a few lines about what is Konmari. I'm kind of curious. Thank you!

Konmari is an organizing and decluttering method developed by Japanese Marie Kondo. Her method has become popular all over the world. The key is to only keep the items that "spark joy" to you, and get rid of the items that don´t. You should focus on what you want to KEEP, not on what you want to discard.

All items should be processed in categories. First you go through your clothes, then books, then papers, then "komono" (miscellaneous items), and last sentimental items. This helps develop your intuition, so you process the sentimental items last, because they are the hardest to let go.

The decision on keeping or discarding each item should be only based on if the items brings you joy or not. So you should not rationalize and think "what if I still need it". But you must also notice that some items are just useful, so you should keep those items too. Like a screwdriver. Maybe it doesn´t feel "joyful", but if you need it, you should keep it. If you don´t use something, and it doesn´t bring you joy, then you should discard it.

Konmari method also encourages to store items in a vertical position. For example clothes, you should fold them so that you can store them vertically, not in piles. That way they take less space.

Marie Kondo speaks about items in a way typical to Shintoism. She talks about items as if they were alive. She says you should take good care of the items you want to keep, and be kind to them. She also encourages communicating with your home and living in harmony with your home and items.

Ok, this was more than a few lines but I hope I managed to explain the Konmari method. :D

Thank you very much! This is very clear to me. What you describes about Konmari makes a lot of sense. Different methods for same goals.
