Osprey Nest Camera at Orange Beach Alabama

Just thought some of you might be interested in seeing the live streaming osprey nest video down here in Orange Beach, Alabama. For those who do not know, Orange Beach (also Gulf Shores and the Fort Morgan Peninsula) are located on the southern-most shore of Alabama. Just a few miles to the east is the Florida State line, and to the west and across Mobile Bay is Mobile Alabama.

To see the streaming Osprey nest, go to ospreycamera.com - you may have to either type in the URL or copy and paste. (Sorry I do not have a picture nor do I know if I can save and post the video)

The baby Ospreys have really grown, and if I am not mistaken, there is a new egg in the nest! I have watched the Daddy Osprey fly off to fish, and bring home the fish to feed the family while the Mama Osprey stayed in the nest with the babies. He brings the fish back and she holds it down with one foot/claw, and pulls the flesh out from under the skin. She takes a bite now and then, but those babies seem to always have their mouths open.

Have not viewed them in over a week and was surprised to see their size today. I would love to see them take their first flight!

Hope you enjoy as much as I have!

zbeccah, the osprey camera is really sharp !! i can see the raindrops right now :) also the puffin browser looks very attractive for my android phone, downloading it now, if the flash works on my puny little phone, i will upgrade to the paid browser, $3 is a bargain :)

Good Luck to you re. WA and your writing. You touched more than a few of us with Ospreys. Is that a niche in itself?

Thank you so much Shields for the comment. Have not really thought about that being a niche, but could incorporate that into a larger niche? Still fumbling around in the niche area; get excited, then poofff....the idea loses interest. Mental block I am afraid - still, I am convinced it will all come together because the desire is there.

Best of luck to you - no doubt WAU is the right place for laying the foundation. Without a solid foundation, our building would be just a teeter-totter waiting for a strong wind!

That is so cool! I kept waiting to see if the Osprey would fly off and go hunting. I needed to get back to this stuff, but I want to return there again and again.

Thanks for the link.

The Mama stays in the nest with the babies while the Daddy flies off to fish. He is responsible for feeding his family! If you are lucky and stick with watching off and on you will see him bring a fish back, turn it over to Mama and she feeds the babies and herself. She holds the fish with one foot/claw, and with her beak she pulls the flesh out from inside the skin. She then puts it in the open mouths of the babies....and she does feed herself. At times she cleans her nest, moving sticks around and making it more comfortable. So glad you are enjoying it!

Labman also shared a site with some Falcons in Rochester New York - I was able to see the Mama feed the babies in New York. My work space is in the visitors center at the Lake of The Ozarks. I shared your site link with one of the wildlife biologists who work here - he loved it!

Last year I worked 8 months in Muscle Shoals, AL. The people were so friendly!

Sullivan, thanks for your comment about the friendly people in Alabama! Most folks are friendly and they will look you in the eye - at least one knows he is not invisible! Best to you!

Both of u are lucky! Lived in bham until 1995 but gulf shores/orange beach was my favorite place..liked the ospreys, thanks for posting about it

Hello kwajy, am so glad you liked the ospreys and good to know that my area is one of your favorites. This is really a nice place!

Oh, my gosh! I just moved to Gulf Shores in February this year. I had no idea you were so close to me! Thanks for sharing the video!

Hello joyce....what a surprise to find someone on WA so close! I shared the video because I thought there might be some nature lovers out there that would enjoy checking in on those birds every now and then. Actually, today was the first day I got a full look at the babies and I was very shocked at their size. I do believe the Mama is sitting on at least one egg now, but had no idea she would start another family before her current babies flew the coop! I hope you enjoy your life in Gulf Shores and that you have learned to avoid the "check in" and "check out" rush days and hours for a tourist destination!
