About Yemmi
Joined February 2018
I've always had big dreams and ideas but I would never take risks because I was afraid of failing. That hasn't gotten me anywhere.
So I'm now determined to stare my fears in the face and step out no matter what. If it doesn't work, I'll keep trying till I figure out what does; if it's wrong I'll find out quicker. But no more of not 'doing'!
And I'm starting with WA, which I discovered early last year but was too scared to dive into.
So here goes the beginning of many 'doings' to come! :)

Hello Yemmoi

Congratulations on going Premium.

I just wanted to say that while there is much value to be had here at Wealthy Affiliate, it can sometimes seem very overwhelming, with everything that has to be done.

My advice from experience is to focus totally on one of the training directions, the green certification OR the Bootcamp, and to stick with that until you have finished it.

Wishing you every success with your business.

Hi and thanks for checking in. I completed the training (starter), and launched my site. I like how it's coming along. I'm particular about it looking very nice and also very easy to navigate. I've been working on creating my content and honestly it's starting to look a little overwhelming. I wonder if I'm trying to do too much too soon. How did you pace yourself when you started? What would you say are the small goals I should focus on from this point to a place where my site is getting reasonable traffic?
Reply
Kyle Premium
Just work to the training as you get there, don't try to do too much at once. A website is a work in progress and they all start off as a blank canvas.

When I started out, I worked at a pace that works for me and of course I worked hard.

Usually around the three month mark a consistent effort, you will really start to have some breakthroughs in terms of rankings and traffic. From there you will continue to scale and grow.

To be realistic about the process of yourself enough time Yemi. You are doing just fine!

If 'wealthyaffiliate .com' wasn't an available domain, would you have chosen 'wealthy-affiliate .com' or 'wealthyaffiliate .org/.net? I remember you said from the training that a .com is a better choice but I was wondering if the dash in between would be an issue.
Or would you have just changed the name and gone with a variation like 'beawealthyaffiliate .com'?
Reply
Kyle Premium
No, we would not have chosen any of those. We would have sought out something that existed as a .com.

Before you purchase the domain name, if you ever want to run the domains by me I would be more than happy to give you some feedback.
Reply
Yemmi Premium
So a .com with a dash/hyphen in between the words is also not good? Example: "wealthy-affiliate.c om" (there's no space between the c and o; it's .com)
Reply
Kyle Premium
It isn't the best. Ideally you want a domain without - in it, and a .com.
Reply
Yemmi Premium
Hi Kyle. I'd like to run some domain names by you please. They are oufitsonabudget; getoutfitsonabudget; completeoutfitsonline; budgetfriendlyoutfits or chiconabudget.
They are all available in .com
Reply
Kyle Premium
Sure, those could all work (if the .com is available). Which ones resonate with you most? I would go with your gut, it is your brand and you need to really like your brand.

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)
Reply
Yemmi Premium
So my chosen niche is having a site where I put together complete outfits, getting each item from various online retailers. I want to focus on affordable items put together to make chic and trendy outfits for women. I also want to make sure there are lots of options for the plus size ladies. I checked siterubix for a domain name I think is perfect and it is available (for now at least).
I also have a similar idea for my second site, but in the area of putting together furniture and decor items for different rooms/spaces in the home or office.
What do you think about these niches?
Reply
Jojomon Premium
Great idea with lots of potential (especially in the plus size niche)! Be sure to use Pinterest!
Reply
Kyle Premium
Your niche ideas are definitely viable directions for your niche. You need to choose one when starting out, what are you most passionate about?

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

Focus on just ONE website and create success with that before diversifying and creating multiple niche websites.

It only takes ONE website in one niche to be very successful online. I usually find that folks that try to do too much at once (focus on several niche websites) end up in a state of mediocrity because it can be overwhelming and you don't really ever become the expert in just one niche.

It is the experts (specialists) that create long term, successful businesses in any niche.

Thanks for the reply Kyle. I certainly agree with focusing on one site first. There's no way I could start out with both :)
To answer the questions you asked - I'm most passionate about making people look good on an affordable budget.
As for narrowing it down to a specific audience, I want to help ladies of all sizes who can't afford to spend too much money but who still want to look chic and trendy. And I want to do that while taking the search out of their shopping time.
How did I do? What do you think?
Reply
Kyle Premium
Beauty on a Budget. Something about of that nature is definitely a direction that you can head, you can even narrow it down more. What aspect of beauty? Face make-up? Body? Mind? Clothing? etc.
Reply
Yemmi Premium
It would be solely clothing and accessories (bags & shoes). All to make a complete outfit.
Reply
Kyle Premium
Yeah, you could head in that direction. ;)

Hi again Kyle. How would you suggest using keywords in my domain since it's not really a blog-type website where I can slot in the words here and there?
Reply
Kyle Premium
When you choose a domain, you are going to want to choose something that is "brandable" versus something that has keywords within it. The reason this is the case is because as you build out your website, you can target as many keywords as you like within the content (that is how you will rank).

I have created a discussion here outlining the process and what to look for when choosing a domain name: This should help you out here and if you ever want to run any domains by me, simply let me know and I will give you some feedback.

PS. You can host up to 25 of your own domains here within the Premium membership on our state of the art hosting platform. :)

Thanks Kyle. I actually just watched that video. Great video by the way!
I didn't mean keywords in the domain name. I guess I'm not using the terms right. I'll learn! :)
What I meant was how do I use keywords within the website since it's not a wordy-type website?
Reply
Kyle Premium
You are going to be creating content on your website, each page/post will target a new keyword. This is going to be covered in detail as you move through the training.

Keywords are the premise of all of your content. Ideally you will be finding keywords with a lower competition (also known as QSR) because it means that you are going to be competition with less websites in Google when you go to create your content.

You want your keyword to meet the following criteria:

(1) Must be lower than 200 QSR initially, as you get more authority in search engines you can tackle more competitive search terms.
(2) Must get some traffic, I ideally aim for over 50 searches per month
(3) Must make grammatical sense

Once you have your keyword, you are going to create a page or a post on your website targeting that keyword. It should be within the following places in your content:

(1) Somewhere in the page/post title
(2) Somewhere within the first paragraph

And then write your content naturally and make sure it is engaging. People search "keywords" when they are looking for something so as you start getting ranked under these keywords, you are going to start to see traffic.

Once you have traffic...you have a ton of opportunity to generate revenue.

Hope this helps you out Yemi!
