Changing the norms!
A civil engineer by profession with almost 15 years experience in the field of construction industry, I was involved in fieldwork activities most of my time. Monitoring and supervising site works activities from foundation works to the superstructure which involve concrete-rebar components, to finishing phase and until to handover completion of the project. This is the scope of work that I was exposed and was trained to do until now. I could say that this is my normal daily routine from 8AM to 5PM from Monday to Saturday. Once the a project is completed then you’ll be re-assigned to another project which again start with what it is normal phasing of the work. One famous tag line that a guy like us always say is – “NOTHING is New under the heat of the SUN, and nothing changes when the rain drops falls to the ground.” Life in the construction definitely a normal routine like any other 8-5 JOB that any person is having now.
I was never been a fan of the Internet world or what we say online activities. I’m a person only that will only open the laptop or IPAD and browse the Internet for the purpose of leisure. I could still remember the very first time that I register on a social media account way back few years ago and that was when I join and register for FRIENDSTER, I know that time FACEBOOK was already around but not that famous yet not like now that FACEBOOK is dominating the online world both personal and business category. I only reason why I was able to create that account because of my girlfriend she insisted and force me to create an account with it. Honestly, for me the only time I use of the Internet was for my personal leisure like watching free movies in the YouTube and check emails for my work. That’s it nothing more and nothing less.
But what triggered my change of outlook about the Internet and why now I want to pursue doing online business? A simple situation but a complicated condition I get married and our first-born child came. Sad reality I was not around when he was born because I’m working overseas that time when my wife give-birth with our first-born. For me, it was one of the most unsatisfying experiences in our married life when I was not around by her side when she gives birth with our child. And with that experience I tell myself if ever GOD will bless us again with a second child I need to be sure that I’ll be around this time with her or they are with me wherever I go or wherever will be my next assignment will be. And with that it came to my sense that my ultimate reason is I want to be my family and I want to see my child grow each day that I’m there watching him develop and learn stuffs day by day. But again a big question came to me I’m not a fanatic about computers or Internet, even a simple software installation in my own computer I could not do it, need to call a friend who is more familiar and knows about software and hardware. So how am I suppose to pursue this online career that I want learn. I was starting to be disappointed. Because this computer or online stuff is a big change for me it is like entering to an unfamiliar territory, which I was not trained. This is not normal to me doing this kind of stuff. But as I realized that the only way for me to move forward is to this, take a risk and have faith that things happen for a reason not just by accident. And I believe that in life, if you have the willingness to learn then you can make it.
And again, I look at my ultimate reason why I want to pursue this path in changing what’s normal to me. I’m doing this for myself and especially for my family, for my wife and my son. I want to maximize my time to that I wan to spend with them. This is challenging the normal stuff that I do in my life, work, and career. And make it a point that I’ll be with my family especially with my son to watch him grow and become a man. I don’t know what lies ahead in this newfound path that I’m pursuing but I know all of us have one chance to make the life that we want. I want to make it the most and make it count.
