Using old school techniques for new ideas - Accomplishments one inch at a time
I was sitting on our deck one morning last week and sipping my mug of coffee while
watching the song birds flit around the yard looking for their breakfast when I had the proverbial light bulb appear above my head. Instead of creating a rough draft for my posts and pages every time on my computer, why not use a template that I can work from each time? I went inside and grabbed a spiral bound notebook and my pencil, then I listened to the ideas as they bounced around inside my head then jotted them down onto paper.
In the process of creating my template or outline that I could use, I started having ideas for posts and additional pages rushed at me like a storm surge. I completely filled seven pages full of ideas/keywords (that I can check out on the computer) to be used in future posts and pages.
In the process of brainstorming, I was mentally writing the posts. In outline form, in my notebook, I jotted down the main thoughts to incorporate into my posts once I went back inside later in the day.
By using this process, I have been able to accomplish several lessons in my journey here at WA. What has been my progress so far, you may ask?
- I have Twitter account now in addition to Google +, Facebook, Pinterest accounts that I already had.
- I am at the rank of 945 here at WA since joining 3 March 2015!
- I have a few affiliate programs in place on my website(s)
- My research is more focused
- I have started looking at my website(s) through the eye of a visitor to make sure that my content is clear and precise. (I will be adding more details later to the pages that I have already posted)
- I am having fun!
By slowing down, and concentrating on the skills that Kyle and others have been teaching us, I have learned that slow is good. A race isn't won overnight. It takes practice, determination, desire, drive, persistence and passion to create the building blocks that our success will be founded on. To build our success in and on rock instead of the shifting sands.
Have I made any money yet? No. I don't think that will happen right away and that is okay. The building stones need to be in place first, my foundation for success. Once the foundation is in place, then I can start reaching for the sky, but even then, my only limitations are the ones I put on myself.

I really like the idea of writing things down on paper and getting organized first before sitting down at a computer. Sometimes when I get on my computer, the words just don't want to come to me. But I've usually been able to write things down manually much better, especially ideas and random thoughts. Nature is always a great inspiration and it's much easier to take a notebook and pen with you outdoors. Thanks for the reminder and your ideas!
Thank you PamBrown! Yes, I was having the same issues with "brain freeze" or "writer's block" when I would sit down to the computer, so I started bringing my notebook with me along with my morning coffee. My nieces thought I was a bit weird at first, but when they realized WHY I brought the notebook out, they gave me encouragement.
Absolutely right it is a marathon and not a sprint - keep creating those building blocks and success will find you
That is great! I feel that my black of organization is what is causing me to stall. I really need to start writing things down (and in the same spot - when I do write things down its in a variety of different places which is then lose track of). I find that I am constantly jumping around and getting side tracked and therefore I feel like I am not accomplishing much of anything. Good luck on your journey. It sounds Ike you are on the right track.
Thanks TanjaRita! That was one of the main reasons I started putting things in a notebook...I would have an idea, but then later I would forget what it was.
