When it comes to learning and growing as an affiliate marketer online, there is ample information about what you need to know to succeed. For example, you will find endless content about how to create an affiliate blog, how to find the best programs and products to promote, etc.

But what often isn't taught is how you can position yourself in any niche with a particular slant or approach that sets you apart from the competition. Affiliates do more than simply write reviews.

They have to come across as trusted niche leaders who have insight and opinions that can help consumers with their purchasing decisions. Simply stating facts, features, and price points isn't enough to sway people to take action on your recommendations.

What often does the job best is when you present your reviews in a way that showcases your personality or a specific point of view that is unique to all of the other content online.

Below, you are going to discover five different approaches you can use to deliver the information your visitors need to know when making plans to buy a digital or tangible product.

There's a Boom in Lifestyle Affiliate Marketing

Lifestyle blogging is a very popular, growing slant for many affiliate marketers. It allows you to cover a wide range of products and topics because they’re all inter-connected on the basis of helping the person achieve the best and most enjoyable life possible.

If you think about it, this approach is good for every consumer – all ages, both genders, any location – people with or without pets or children, individuals on all income levels – you name it.

Lifestyle bloggers can take the position of comfort and pair it with topics like elegance, organic, and other prerequisite adjectives to deliver an approach that sets them apart from other affiliates.

With a lifestyle concept, you get to share things on a personal level that resonate with your target audience even deeper than simply restating product features. You basically help people find contentment with their selections.

That might be items you discuss for wellness, fashion, nutrition, design and more. You’re not limited in what you discuss, but the way you present it all ties in to helping the reader live a better life.

The reviews aren’t published in traditional affiliate formats, like the “Top 10 Alternatives to Coffee.” Instead, it’s presented in a post like the one by lifestyle blogger Camille Styles, called “I Quit Coffee Two Years Ago – These Alternatives Give Me a Boost Without the Crash.”

In an affiliate post like this, you’ll do like Styles has done and discuss your own morning ritual. She talks about the product she uses to grind her own beans and tells how it was a Christmas gift from her husband.

Then she foes on to talk about why she made the swap, how the rest of her day unfolds with other coffee alternatives and paints a picture of a cozy day filled with contentment where she’s “loving sipping it alongside a lighter breakfast.”

You can almost picture the scene, and the links to the products she glosses over or mentions are there to boost her revenue, but they’re not as blatant as many affiliate marketers use on their blogs.

She isn’t afraid to link out to other beneficial resources, like quoting nutritionist Julie Upton about gut bacteria. Her wording is carefully chosen, such as “soothing,” “gorgeous,” “delectable” and more – furthering her vision to position these drinks as improvements to her readers’ lives.

Consumer Advocate Affiliates Have a Loyal Audience

A consumer advocate is someone who fights to protect people in some way. In order to protect them (from making bad buying decisions in the case of affiliate marketers), they create content their readers need that they have carefully researched, tried and tested in some cases.

If you love having a hands-on approach to affiliate marketing, such as purchasing products you can unbox or do a case study on, then positioning your brand as an advocate for consumers in your niche might be the best way to go.

Of course, you don't have to purchase every item that you review in order to be a consumer advocate. You can do the same thing simply by digging deep and exposing any flaws that a product may have, as well as going above and beyond to offer additional reasons as to why someone may want to own a product.

When they see that you are discerning in your selections for them, based on your ability to protect them from spending money on products that don't live up to the hype, it reflects on you in a positive manner.

Consumer Reports is one type of blog that is dedicated to helping buyers make the best choice when it comes to a wide variety of products. It might be lawn mowers or cars, but they are a go to source because people feel as if the products are vetted for them thoroughly.

This is something many affiliate marketers simply don't do. They are so scared of including any negative information about a product that they overhype the benefits and features of the product instead.

Consumers aren't stupid. They know that products are not perfect. If you have the ability to be fair and genuine with your review, you can still recommend that they spend money on a product, even if it isn't as perfect as the manufacturer or vendor pretends it is.

Luxury Affiliates Are Often Overlooked

While consumer advocate blogs are fiercely protective over a buyer’s purchases, making sure they don’t spend it foolishly on worthless products, there's another point on the spectrum where money is not a concern.

Don't mistake the concept of money being no object for a total disregard of the quality of products that are being promoted to them. On the contrary - these consumers expect the best for the money they are spending.

So you can't simply look at a price point of a digital or tangible product and assume that just because they will be spending more, they'll be satisfied that they're getting the best. As a luxury affiliate, you will be curating and recommending the very best products their money can buy.

There are certain niche products that are entirely based around luxury. For example, when you think of a yacht, you immediately think of someone who has money to spare. However, there are also other niches where the products range from extremely affordable for the most budget minded person all the way through to luxury level purchases.

Watches are a good example of this, or jewelry in general. You can find digital watches for under $20 and luxury watches for more than $20,000. You can find cubic zirconia earrings and top quality diamond earrings that are worlds apart in terms of what the consumer is willing to spend on them.

Another niche where you can take a stance on delivering luxury recommendations to your audience is beauty. There are over the counter drug store skin care and beauty products and top tier products that cost a pretty penny.

You can find luxury products to promote in many different niches. In addition to jewelry and beauty, you can also find it in fashion, culinary products, travel, and more. You can even combine the concept of a luxury with what you are providing as a lifestyle blogger so that you are helping people purchase products that will give them expensive experiences, but which have the quality built in to support their spending.

You can conduct some research to find more luxury or upscale niches to target. Wealthy individuals are often focused on the interior of their home, their cars, and anything that provides a culturally-rich lifestyle for them.

Budget-Minded Affiliate Slants Can Earn Big Profits

At the complete opposite end of the spectrum, there are millions of consumers shopping online solely to have the opportunity to get the best deal and protect their hard earned money.

While consumer advocate blog readers also want to get a good buy, they are often willing to spend more if the value of the product is worth it. Many affiliates steer clear of promoting low-budget products because they feel as if they won't earn as much commission on it.

However, they often make up for the loss of luxury commissions with the volume of sales that they generate. If you can position your blog as a friend to those who have to watch every dime they make, you can still generate a top tier income.

Previously, we talked about how you shouldn't just recommend something to luxury shoppers just because it has a high price point. The same holds true for budget-minded shoppers.

Just because something is cheaper, it doesn't mean you should recommend it to your target audience. You can find things that are inexpensive, which still have value to the consumer.

You can also find low priced products that are also poor quality, and these should be avoided at all costs. People want to know how to shop on a budget, and still get the quality that they deserve.

Just because they may not have as much money to spend on something, it doesn't mean they don't deserve to have a product that will fulfill their needs. You can choose to drill down into a specific budget niche, or you can apply the budget concept to all of your promotions.

Again, you compare this with the lifestyle blog slant and be able to recommend everything from kitchen appliances on a budget to beauty items, fashion, health and fitness, and other products where people need them, but may not have a lot of money to spend on them.

Using this type of slant, you can't just recommend products that have a low price point. You want to be able to share more with your audience, such as tips and hacks on using less expensive products to get the same result as those who had luxury money.

Taking a Cutting Edge Affiliate Approach Makes Your Hard Work Pay Off

There are many consumers who are not necessarily focused on their budget or what has been ranked well. What they like is to be one of the first people who own or get to use a product that will likely be popular.

We see this with things like smart phones. consumers will line up to be one of the first people to spend hundreds of dollars on the latest iPhone release. Or, a certain basketball shoe will be released and enthusiasts will spend hundreds of dollars to have one of a limited number of first releases.

Even in the beauty niche, when a popular influencer announces they have created a palette of eye shadows, they will sell out within minutes because consumers want to be the first or one of the only ones who own the product and can share their purchase with their own followers.

Regardless of what niche you're in, it probably has some way that you can blog about the newest releases and any cutting edge features that other products or brands may not have yet.

When you are focusing on a cutting edge slant or approach, you can blog about products that are the first of their kind - something completely new to the marketplace that consumers have not yet seen.

Or, you can blog about cutting edge improvements that are being made on existing products that consumers are used to seeing in one form, but have now been released with new features or enhancements.

Of course, you are not restricted to selecting any one of these five approaches for your blog as a whole. Keep in mind that every URL in your domain serves as a doorway to your entire site content.

That means, someone may enter your site looking for lifestyle information, and navigate their way to other posts on your domain that show them a variety of slants ranging from products on a budget to those that are marked luxury items.

This is especially fine for people who stick to one type of niche topic, and want to cover a variety of approaches throughout their content. The only thing you want to avoid is trying to mix in a slant that doesn't work.

For example, if you have made a decision and built a domain about luxury products for your niche topic, you don't want to suddenly insert content for people on a budget because it's not geared to the overall concept.

Setting up your technical blog in finding the products that you want to promote in a particular niche can be an important process of succeeding as an affiliate marketer. But being able to cultivate a relationship with your followers based on the way you present information is equally important.
