Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with this business. I am anxious to see what feedback you get. Good luck.

Hi, sorry, I have no experience of Freelancer.com Irv.

1

I am a freelance writer and get a lot of my clients through Upwork. I looked at Freelancer when I first started but the amount people expect to pay is far less than Upwork. Having said that, with the increase in commission that Upwork have introduced, and the fact that they now charge clients as well as freelancers may mean that I have to re-think things :)

Thanks for your reply Jude.
I just want to say...spend at least 30 minutes on the fine print. My next review is probably Upwork but I'm bored with the way they make it so hard for people to just get on with working.
Maybe there's an opening for a really good outsourcing program that looks after freelancers...and pays them the right money. Don't the low bidders realise they are making it harder for everyone, including themselves.
Cheers. J

On the fine print of what? I'm easily confused lol)

Well, I thought you meant you might go look at Freelancer instead of Upwork.

1

No, I said I looked at it when I first started! I would earn too little on there - I can charge $100 per hour on Upwork :)

Looks like, from reading the other replies that this is not a good opportunity.

Have never tried any of these, so I really cannot comment. Hearing from our members, it does not sound worthwhile.

It's great if you like to work for 50 cents an hour. That's basically what you have to bid to get hired. And then the site takes a cut out of that. Upwork increased their cut recently from 10% to 20%

1

20%? That's a chunk! The pay rate is bad at most of those sites.

Yeah, I think some of their advertised project costs may be a LITTLE misleading!
Upwork doesn't get a much better wrap although there are some WA members happy with their upwork dollars.
Thanks for your reply. J

I took a quick look at freelancer.com and it is interesting enough that I am going to get involved and write a review. My first reaction was, "I don't get paid till my client approves my work." That sounds like the kind of setup Trump offers his sub-contractors. On second look Freelancer has a way to facilitate arbitration.

They have an affiliate program, but the cookie only lasts 90 days from the time of introduction. I doubt the affiliate program is going to be a strong source of income, but I got to look at it deeper.

If anyone has real world experience, I'd like to know what it was.

Thanks Bill. Freelancer is a bit like booking a flight, every button you click costs extra money....including the arbitration service.
I signed in for a short time, to try and understand if and how it works, but I wasn't comfortable with a few factors, particularly the collection of personal info.
Thanks for your reply. J

I am not a fan of Freelancer.com. The freelancers make bids on jobs. Most of the time the ones that are doing the hiring are looking for the cheapest bids while hoping for quality work. It is also dependent on your rating, which you build up with assignments. For a new freelancer it is really competitive and very hard to get hired and get your rating up. Sometimes the people that do the hiring aren't willing to pay and always complain about the work.
O'desk is worse and they've changed their name to Upwork.
Sometimes you can have awesome skills in certain areas and not get hired because your bid wasn't low enough.

Thanks Brendie.
It looks like a really hard way to make money and super competitive. What you say is reinforcing the many complaints I have heard.
Thanks for your reply. J

I am not familiar with Freelancer but will stay tuned.

I would love to hear the answers also.

My full review will be published within the next couple of days. You are welcome to take a peek. J
