Moving a wordpress site to WA hosting

I know several different ways to transfer a wordpress site from one hosting to another, but with WA hosting it's almost mission impossible.

All I'm trying to do is help another member move a site from another host to WA.

How can a member transfer a site to WA hosting or more importantly how are they expected to import a database?

Previously WP Clone by WP Academy worked with WA hosting and you could transfer a site with just a few clicks, but it no longer works here.

Just to add to my comment below, I spent 3 days trying to back-up and transfer my site to WA, when I raised a support ticket to ask a question about something they told me they could do the whole thing for me. Hope this helps others not to get into a mess like I did.

It is something beyond my knowledge I know it can be done for I am sure there was a lesson with this subject in it hope you can manage to work it out

Raise a support ticket and tech support will do it all.

Carson helped me in Chat, as I have been considering doing this, but I have not yet because my hosting cleared up the issue I had, but if that issue comes up again, I will make the switch.

Here is my understanding of how it needs to be done:

1. Set up a destination website on a free siterubix subdomain.

2. Export the content of your old site and save it as a zip file on your computer. You can use the Export feature in the WordPress back end to do this.

Carson mentioned to copy/export the wp-content folder via FTP and save that to your computer. I am not certain if he meant in addition to exporting the full content, including the database.

When I used the export function in my admin area, it asked me which database I wanted to export, or did I want to do a "full" export.

So I ended up with a zip file of a full exported backup, and a zip file of just the wp-content folder, which has all images, media and plugins.

3. Once the site content is moved (imported or uploaded) to the new Siterbux website, the next step is to point the domain DNS over to WA.

4. Then MOVE the siterbux website to the domain, using the instructions you find below:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/carson/blog/siterubix-website-to-a-domain-you-own-in-one-click

I understand the process. Just not certain whether the only thing needed to be export/imported is the wp-content folder, or whether the full backup is needed (although a good idea to have it anyway, just in case).

Carson mentioned that they are working on simplifying the whole process, but he did not indicate when this will be available.

I hope this helps to point you in the right direction.

Wow, Jude. THank you for sharing all of this information.

Yeah, this is still waaay too complicated for me. I would not know how to even DO these steps with confidence and I have been online for years.

Uggh. Until they make this process easier, I will just stay with Hostgator for the time being.....

I understand Lynn. I have probably made it sound more complicated than it is. As others have commented, if you would like to transfer your site to WA, put in a support ticket and ask them to help you.

I'm sure they will give you a much clearer step by step, or, as others have said, they will do it for you. ~Jude

I wish I could help, I know how to do it if you have access to the database, I've never done it here so I don't know.

Maybe submit a support ticket and request that they import the database?

The database then could then be FTP'd to the document root where the support personnel could access it to import it or upload it to dropbox or google drive and share it with the support team?

This all hinges on whether the support would do this..

Hi Welshy,

This is a good question... I would be interested in knowing about this as well. If you get a good answer could you please forward it to me in a PM? I appreciate any help you can give : )

Has anyone tried the steps in this video?

Thanks Craig. Different times new members ask about transferring a site. So, should we just say it can't be done here?

I'm not sure, I know you can use the wordpress export/import tool, but that doesn't contain setting from the plugins/themes/widgets from my understanding.

From what I understand you once you change the domain over to WA servers you should be able to do an FTP to get the rest of the information

Yes that right but you also have a blog database that needs importing.
