Deleting & Cleaning Up Old Posts - 301 To Home or do something else?
Wondering what is the recommend option when deleting old blog posts.
- Should I be creating a 301 to the homepage or perhaps similar posts on same topic for the old post urls?
- Just delete it and move on?
- Or should I be doing something else?
These posts are all old and outdated, I personally just want to delete them and move on with less clutter, but I'm sure I should be going about this differently.
Advice and opinions are appreciated.

Thanks for the comments, I'm going to just trash many of the posts that are old, they may get a trickle of traffic but I'm not concerned about that, I'll also deal with WMT errors as they come in.
I did consider updating some of the posts, but it's likely better to just create new posts from scratch.
I use an "oops page" on my site when I have completely rewritten the post and created a new permalink, and where the new link is still highly relevant to the topic the person is searching:

Redirecting to the home page is not a good idea.
This article might help you to decide whether to redirect or not:

That depends on the stats. Are those posts still getting hits? If not, just delete them and move on. If so you may want to set up redirects. It's entirely up to you and your judgement. It won't harm things either way.
Not sure how outdated they are but couldnt you just write a brand new updated post and simply link the old one to the new updated one. I don't really see a reason in deleting the post completely and I personally would rather see that you take the time to update information instead of me simply not being able to find the page but thats just me.
I have not reached that stage of old post. I have only two pages of post. Now my niche have other pages with other themes. But I'm not sure disposed of, unless if I'll have an archive for this purpose. Always serve as references. That's my personal opinion, when it comes to me your situation, we talk. But if I would like to read the experts from the community, it does not hurt.

I was considering just letting them "age" in the background. Guess it depends how out of date they are. No chance of just sprucing them up?
