How to use pride to improve your self-esteem.

I did'not know what to really write on this blog but just wanted to write something. I have been reading a lot about Dr Nathaniel Branden's books and today I was fascinated about his definition of Self-Esteem. While reading "Six Pillars of Self-Esteem" , I was then reminded of a saying I heard from another woman who remarked in my setswana language, "Ke tla reng ke sa rutega" in her response to the shop owner.

It is literally translated as :What can I say because I am not educated.", This would mean that only educated people in this case. Educated people are mostly generally regarded to be full of pride. So, I checked the dictionary for the definition..

Definition of Pride

"a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired."

Pride is a quality or a virtue enshrined in most company's mission statements. In order to enjoy this feeling or deep pleasure, you need to have a clear desire, goal, needs and wants. Pride is not driven by competition or comparison but by vision and clear goals.

The second driver of such an experience, is your confidence in your ability to think and also trust in your own ideas. The confidence in our own ideas provides us with the feeling of worthiness. Our desires, needs, wants and goals are unique and have their unique meaning and when we achieve them, then we become proud.

I Can vs I Did

We are the only amazing creature which have been given the mind as the only tool of survival. However, the mind is not programmed to think, we have to choose to think or not to think. That is why most of the time when you ask most people, "what are you thinking?" you get something like ."Nothing"

Although think is our survival tool, the responsibility to think is quite enormous and daunting for most of the people. Actually, majority of the people prefer conformity rather than being unique.

Now the courage to think and our belief in our ability to think is the starting point. Your thoughts should not always be positive, but at least thinking should be taking place at your will.

I can think

I will think

I am thinking

are you?

When we trust our own mind to provide answers or to learn, or to seek understanding and find information, process information, seek the truth and facts then we shall be saved. Trusting your mind or your ideas does not guarantee success all the times, but even when you fail or do not achieve your desired outcomes, you will think again and evaluate what is needed to be achieve success.

Most people who can think and those who trust their minds, find it easy to look back and say "I Did It". They are driven by pride of achieving their own desires, needs, wants and goals. Pride is deep pleasure and reward you must give to yourself after achieving your own goals and desires.

What are you really proud of ..?

Really great post!
It is important to be proud of us it is the backbone of a fulfilled life. Never bow our head and always move forward without fear of falling. And without being proud of ourselves, moving forward is difficult.

Ingrid

Thank you very much, Ingrid. It is amazing how we forget to appreciate ourselves for the good work well done. It is easier to wish or compliment other people and not doing the same for ourselves.

Let's appreciate every service we render here on Wealthy Affiliate, the value we are creating sharing our content with those who need it more.

Regards,
Welcome Moeng

History is packed with people who achieved greatness without being highly educated in schools. They were self educated.

Great post.

Joe

I cannot agree with you more. Education has been a way to exclude others but learning is universal. I have learned so many things about life and in my profession from people who did not go to school but gained wisdom and experience.

Kind Regards,

Awesome feedback. Wisdom is a gift from the Source of all Wisdom.
