What's the point of a good headline?

Anybody?

To get them to read more!

Good job, I'm going to assume you guessed that one correctly.

The purpose of a good headline with an interesting hook gets the reader to keep reading.

Well what makes up a good headline, you ask?

Welcome to Headlining 101.

Let's go.

Attention is a currency.

If you have your audiences attention, you completed the hardest task.

Once you have their attention all you have to do now is keep it. But more on that another time.

How do you get their attention in the first place?

A hook, something interesting, an attention grabber, poke at their curiosity.

A good headline will have the viewer itching to read what was said in the article.

You want them to be saying, "What did I just read? I HAVE to know what that's about."

There's two ways I like to go about this.

One way is to announce your biggest benefit to the consumer in the headline.

A lot of people believe they should keep it towards the end.

No. You want your prospects to know what is in it for them right off the bat.

This gets their attention and compels them to keep reading.

Another way is to use this formula:

1) How [unrelated thing]

2) Got me [desired result]

3) In just [time frame]

Example: How Binge-Watching YouTube Videos Got Me a 150% Increase in Online Sales in Just 60 Days.

Main takeaway: Keep it interesting, grab their attention, make them want to read the next line.
