Trophy Hunting!

I am from the upper Midwest and, as many others from this area are, was raised learning to hunt and fish not only for enjoyment, but to provide clean, affordable food. Unintentionally, I find myself relating many things to the activities of 'hunting' and 'fishing'. Most notably, the misunderstanding what is truly 'hunting' or 'fishing' and not 'getting'! Just because you paid the most for your gear or spent a day trying, doesn't mean that you will get anything.

This idea correlates to many life experiences, but let's compare it to internet marketing since we're here. Now, as in hunting, you might go find the exact right spot on your first try and be successful for a day; but it probably won't teach you anything about what you should do next time. True hunters/fishers spend weeks and months of their lives dedicated to learning more about what they are trying to do. They scout all the time, they learn what the signs of a good spot are, the record every detail of every hunt; all in an attempt to be prepared. Let's be honest, the easy hunt is always the most alluring; if I could make money on the internet without doing anything, that would be awesome! But, knowing that will rarely happen, spending the time to research and create a truly detailed, prepared approach is much more rewarding.

What does this say about how most of us live our lives? I rarely plan for anything, much less study every detail to be truly prepared! If I prepared for each day like a hunter prepares for a hunt, I would probably already have moved up the career ladder, I'd probably be in better shape, I'd probably have healthier relationships, hell, I'd have an idea what to make for supper before I got home.

I guess my point is, don't always count on finding an easy way to accomplish something. If it seems too easy/good to be true, it probably is. Remember, an easy spot might get you a small doe; but the trophy bucks are in places that are hard to get to.

Having never been an hunter this was very enlightening Matthew and the analogy worth noting. I have done some fishing and was born in an area where fishing is a way of life, so I do understand that the best fishes are not necesssarily close to shore. Thanks.

They are trophy bucks for a reason.
