Pinterest Tutorials: Does Pinterest Hate AI Images?
The subject of AI images has become pretty huge when it comes to Pinterest. With them using their AI modification label to spot (correctly or incorrectly) pins which can affect their performance. This naturally raises a lot of questions on the topic of making/using AI images in Pinterest and that's what this video covers. Overall:
- Ideally, stick to making REAL images to avoid any potential issues.
- If you're going to make AI images, make them as high quality as possible.
- If you have AI images performing very well on Pinterest, keep them unless they are labeled AI modified, in which case I'd delete them.
- If you have AI images NOT performing well on Pinterest (and use 180 days as a measurement), then I'd remove them just like I would suggest you do if you were judging if a real pin is worth keeping or deleting.

Really helpful information, AI images on Pinterest are tricky right now. That "AI-modified" label can tank a pin’s reach. Good call on sticking with real images when possible, and love the 180-day rule for judging performance. Thanks for the tips!
Hey Vitaliy,
You made some great points about AI images and Pinterest. I wanted to ask your opinion about transparency—do you think it makes a difference if you clearly mention in your pin description that the image is AI-generated, instead of just hoping it flies under the radar? Is that a better option, or does it not really matter at this point?
Also, I’ve noticed (maybe you have too) that there are accounts out there bragging about huge monthly views using only AI-generated pins. Some of them don’t seem to disclose anything about how the images are made, and so far it doesn’t look like they’re being penalized or seeing a drop in reach. Do you think at some point that’s going to catch up with them, or does Pinterest not seem too bothered about it for now?
Would love to hear your take—not putting you on the spot, just genuinely curious about your experience and where you see all this going!

Hi Sonia all great questions. So for starters, I think it's overkill to mention that an image you make is AI, just keep it simple and mention relevant stuff about the context of the image pertaining to your image, not where/how it's made.
As for people bragging about using AI and all that, I honestly don't know. I do know that low quality is going to be penalized and/or people who abuse the system and make tons of pins everyday which Pinterest does look into, which is why I say under 50 is a safer way to go.
That makes sense, Vitaliy—thanks for sharing your perspective! I guess it’s easy to get caught up in the “transparency vs. overkill” debate when Pinterest keeps shifting the goalposts. I totally agree that quality and relevance should always come first, no matter how the image is made.
And yes, the people posting a flood of pins every day… I have to wonder how sustainable that really is! I’ll focus on making a few great pins rather than chasing volume and see how it goes.
If you notice any new trends or see Pinterest making big moves with AI in the coming months, I’d love to hear your take.
Always appreciate your insights!
Sonia
