What’s a fingerling?

Google doesn't know everything! A woman tweeted a picture of a piece of lamb she'd cooked saying that she'd eaten it with roasted fingerlings which were not pictured.
I knew the name sounded familiar but my only experience of them was the above cute toy. I asked her what they were and she tweeted back that I could find out on Google so I asked Google 'what's a fingerling' and I got the above pic!
I tweeted her the pic jokily asking if she'd eaten the cute toys, hoping she'd laugh and then tell me what she'd actually eaten. She liked the tweet but nothing so I asked Alexa 'What's a fingerling?'
Alexa told me that a fingerling is either a type of small fish or something small. I figured she didn't eat wee fish with lamb because that would be gross - although the lamb was cooked with something called bacon dripping gravy so maybe!
I was no closer to finding out and it bugged me a bit not to know, so I thought I'd ask the lovely WA community, I started this post and typed fingerling into the picture finder expecting a picture of the cute toy or wee fish but instead the single pic that came up was this:-
Well, that answered my question! I thought it was funny how I finally came by the answer so I decide to post anyway and now I can get on with my day knowing that no cute toys were harmed in the making of one woman's Sunday lunch!

Oh, right -- I read your post and immediately thought of fish, as that's what we call baby ones. I forgot about the French fingerlings, which are one of my favorite potatoes to grow. Lol...
I’m a terrible gardener but some potatoes grew in spite of me last year and made me feel like a farmer, lol. Don’t think they were fingerlings tho’😁
Yes, I have seen recipes for fingerling potato’s. Fingerling—small potatoes.

Cordelia, I hear what you say, my android phone was in the same mood too. I struggled to get past the autocorrect because it kept on wanting to delete the "l"....I had to read the finished sentence twice before I pressed save!😂😂
