Don't get caught up on the stats!

G’day WA Tribe. I’d like to share an early experience with you and hopefully this could be helpful to a lot of the early starters. It’s a lesson I wish I learnt earlier but it came to my mind when I was checking my stats today.

In my first couple of months of the exciting start into of my affiliate marketing journey, it was extremely motivating seeing growth in the statistics of web site hits, visitors, affiliate sales and so on.

Everyone wants results right! But I, all to quickly got my mind set stuck in the stats and not the web site content. This made the small amount of time I work on my site inefficient and always having a peek at the statistics and getting off track and loosing focus.

I found that it’s easy for anyone to get caught up in their stats which have plateau or not growing the way they want. This will quickly put out the wild fire that you had when you started your WA journey. I can see why many loose interest in their first 6 months.

I made a deal with myself and said no looking at stats for 2 weeks and just ensure I focus on work. I’ve done this for over a month now and decided to try not look at my stats for about a month this time round.

So, what I've learned is that stats are helpful but only if I rarely review them. I found this ensures my mindset and motivation move in the right direction.

How often do you check your stats? What kind of traffic do you need when stat checks are crucial to your site?

Would love your feedback on this.

Cheers, Vin

Hi Vinnie!

I've recently been discouraged by checking my stats too often (almost everyday!). It's hard not to measure your success by these numbers, but you're right, it can be a hindrance on our progress! I am going to try out your idea and not check my stats for 2 weeks.

Cheers,
Ciara

Good Plan. Try for once a month if you just at the beginning of your journey. Once you have some serious traffic, weekly checks can help guide you to see what campaigns are working or not.

Thanks for the follow Vin, I needed to hear this again. Focus on the content, after more time and effort, the rest should come.

I think you are absolutely correct about this. I am constantly checking my stats, which is distracting me from the real work. Thanks for this reminder.

Hi Vin,
I am still finalising my website so I have only looked about 3 times in 2 months. Too busy writing the content as you stated.

And that's the best way to do it. More quality content.

Hello Vin and I just take a look at my stats at the end of the month just for fun really - I use SumoMe on my website and so see every day what is happening as it is interesting to see which blogs people are looking at - but better to focus on writing content!
