Looking For A New Direction For My Niche

Just started on a new webiste for a Graphic Design Community. I thought I would take a more mellow approach with this site. I am going to use Affiliate links for specific products and not use Amazon or Google Adsense until much later down the road.

I really feel that I want to build my community first and have some group participation on my Facebook page and group. This is what I originally thought about when I started Graphic Spot, and then got caught up with monetizing my site before I really had any traffic.

I am going to keep Graphic Spot up and running for now, but in maybe a year's time, I will announce that Graphic Spot will be joining Heart And Soul Graphics.

Heart And Soul Graphics will be more for sharing project ideas and submitting designs to our Community Gallery. Of course there will be tutorials and such to help with the creation of the projects, but I truly want this new site to be a community type of site where my readers will share in brainstorming and completing projects that they will submit ideas to be considered and approved by the community. I could use polls or voting forms for these activities. I want it to be a community that my readers would eventually become members and also post articles, projects and etc on the blog.

Any thoughts, advice or tips on the subject are very welcome!

Virginia

I am an Affiliate for Adobe, Total Training and Creative Live, so I thought that I would incorporate only those links for awhile. (a year or so)

Thanks for posting your ideas. I think you've fleshed out your ideas nicely and now it's time to get into specific weekly or monthly goals you want to attain - and perhaps you've also done that :) Marc

Hi Marc,
Thanks for your advice, no I haven't set those goals yet, but that is my next step once I get some content up.

So true thanks

I will follow you so I can keep up with how your site progresses. It sounds interesting. :)

I don't have any thoughts or tips except to keep it real. I like that you said you are going to take a mellow approach.

I am in the web design field which is totally related to graphics. I tend to find people don't appreciate being "sold" to in the industry, but they are looking for solutions to their problems. So, yeah build trust and help people like Kyle says.

Thanks for your tips and for the follow!
What I would like to provide is a place where we can share our knowledge with each other, much like here at WA. Centered around graphic design learning, creativity and inspiration.
Looking forward,
Virginia

I like what you said about in your post and I will like every post that comment on. If I take time to write a reply to what you have said. Fleetwood Mac is in my head right now, I have always loved them, but back to what I was saying. I mean what I said n my post, but they fall short on training on how to use what us Graphic Designers was not taught on how to use what we know in WordPress I have no experience in the design field, but I know how to make killer graphics, but don't know how to get them on my site. Do you understand what I am saying. Please like my comments if they have any merit, thanks Sruffey.

Sruffey what type of graphics are you trying to get on your site? Maybe I can be of assistance, provide an example and I will see what help I can offer you. Some tips or how to....

I really hate the idea of graphics not being the heart and soul of a website, because it is so important to a website. without the bells and whistles that graphics adds to your website is unreal. I went back to school to study Website design and Graphics. I have my degree and don't know hot to incorporate my studies into WordPress! Why don't give us training on how we can learn what we learn in school? I will join your site if you can help me with my problem, all I hear is that what we learned in college is not reladent to wat we spent so much money on learning does not apply to WordPress. You learned http and spent so much time and money on something you can not use In WordPress. Jay said it was outdated I take it as insult, that this is what the good schools are teaching, So we wasted our money and time something that is outdated. BS just because it is easier on WordPress That we should not use our schooling. This has made me so angry!!!!!
Please like my comments, thanks Sruffey

Hi Sruffey,
It does make me upset also, but I have to say in a good education as a base, to me, means that I understand the full concepts and history of graphic design right down to the psychology of graphics and colors in marketing. In this field the tools of the trade advance at very high rates, so I must be the eternal student and teacher. I am putting together some training and exercises for my new site. They will focus on how to achieve a desired result in graphic design projects such as branding, logo design and some design projects that are ideas submitted for consideration by the community of my site. At first I will ask for comments with ideas, then I will probably start some sort of contests, etc.
Thank you for your comment it is definitely giving me some insight for content!

Graphics and interactive website design .. YESSS ... but, again, Anyone "smarter than a potato, can "Git-R-Done" cheap and easy .. and from the comfort of their recliner.

I was 56 years young when I went back for my second time to learn something new. I first went back to school in 1982 studying Auto Body Repair and painting, did that for 39 years, but my body give out on me and I fell in LOVE with the internet., had never been online and said I would never would. You know what they say about never say never, look where I am now have a degree in web and graphic design and in the top 200 here at WA in rackings. But do remember one thing " Don't ever give up and never surrender" my motto Thanks Sruffey.
