One way to gather ideas for blog posts

I think a lot of people struggle with the where to get ideas for new posts.

One of the things that Google seems to like is content that is new and topical and by that I mean it relates to things that are going on in the world (real or virtual) at the time of writing. So this sort of content potentially has a limited shelf life and is probably not "pillar" content.

The best place to get information on what is current and trending in any niche is Google. The idea is to use Google Alerts using keywords from your niche to get sent emails about those topics. It is very simple to do:

  1. Visit Google Alerts ( google.com/alerts )
  2. In the "Create an alert about" box, enter the keywords that you want Google to send you email alerts about
  3. Click Show options to say how often you want to receive alerts (I started with daily but I got overwhelmed with too many emails), what types of results you want to get, and more.
  4. Click Create Alert.
  5. Once your alert is set up, you'll start getting emails any time we find new search results for your keywords.

Hope this is helpful to someone - if you try it let me know how you get on.

I use Google Alerts great resources

I'm glad you put this here Mike! I have used google alerts for years. You can also use it to get alerts on your name to see who is writing about you or you can use your email address etc etc...

Thanks for sharing this :)

Hey there Vetinari, I tried the link and it didn't seem to work. Is this no longer an option for google? or is this just a faulty link? Thanks!

For some reason the closing) has been included in the link. should be www.google.com/alerts

Thank you, I realize now how easily I could've figured that out on my own... Anyways, thank you for the help. Looking forward to trying your trick.
