In recognition of World MS Day May 27, 2015
On Monday June 15, 2015, my MS support group met for our regular monthly meeting.
We listened intently and shared our experiences over the past month in a no holds barred environment. One member shared with us a poem she received from her then young daughter written by her several years ago however, her daughter kept the poem her secret. Now an adult, married and living abroad she carefully chose the time to send the poem to her mother, May 27, World MS Day.
Here’s the story: This young girl’s father has MS and she is devastated. Too young to understand what is going on with the family, too afraid to find out she withdraws into her-self. Several years later she eventually left home and went far, far away overseas.
With permission from her daughter I was asked by her mom to publish the poem on my site however, the family asked to keep their identity private and I respect their request. Since I cannot duplicate content from one site to the next I invite you all to visit my site and read that sad, yet beautiful post
‘A Family Almost Broken’ recently published, June 16, 2015 on
The reality is that MS is a ‘family’ issue. It is not only the individuals inflicted with this disease that is impacted. Every family member is impacted and the children silently suffer more than we recognize.
The reluctance to talk openly about this condition hinders rather than helps families. It is a blessing that World MS Day is formed to bring public awareness about MS globally. It is healthy to talk and share. Denial is destructive and anger leads to apathy. In the end, nothing is resolved. No matter what challenges we face, together, there’s strength in numbers, and, if there’s a will there’s a way. Be reminded you’re not alone. Reach out and accept the love and support so freely offered.
What is World MS Day?
World MS Day brings the global MS community together to share stories, raise awareness and campaign with and for everyone affected by multiple sclerosis.
World MS Day is the only global awareness raising campaign for MS. Every year, the MS movement comes together to provide the public with information about MS and to raise awareness on how it affects the lives of more than 2.3 million people around the world.
History
Since its inception in 2009, World MS Day has grown from strength to strength, reaching hundreds of thousands of people in more than 78 countries worldwide and continuing to grow every year.

Hi Vena, Thanks so much for this post. My cousin has had MS for years. The doctors just sent her home and told her that nothing else could be done. So sad. Again thanks.
Dusty
Hello Dusty: So far, there is no cure for MS. No one knows for sure what causes MS, however, depending on what kind of MS and the progression of your cousin's condition, there is always hope for the best outcome. Send me a PM. Let's talk some more on this topic.
Hello Dawn: Thanks for reading and your comments. Collectively, we hope with continued research in science there will be no more MS. Cheers.
Hello Brian: You're welcome. Living with MS is truly a huge challenge!
