Fear can be fine, it is you who decides when it isn't

Ok, it sounds a bit absurd. Fear is a completely natural and sometimes helpful emotion. So I don't mean don't be scared when you're being chased by a lion. There are practical scenarios where fear will save your life! But a lot of modern day society doesn't involve those types of scenarios. So our evolved sense of fear and anxiety may not be as helpful in our day to day lives. Fear is fine, but when its getting in the way of where you want to be, you have to choose. Comfort, or

If your afraid to ask for that promotion, or worried that you'll get rejected by that girl/guy. Take a deep breath and think. I'm not saying just don't be scared, that's stupid. Instead of some meaningless platitude, I want to help you through your fear methodically.

So I want you to take some time and think about one particular fear you have, it doesn't matter how big, small, crazy or embarrassing it is. The next thing i want you to do is picture yourself in that fear filled situation. Go on, don't be scared.

Think about the outcome logically. What is the worst cast scenario... You embarrass yourself? You get rejected? Of couse, in the moment it seems like the worst thing imaginable. Funny how when you think about it in retrospect or forethought that it doesn't seem like that much of a big deal. Most of the time you will find your worst case scenario is actually completely manageable. You just need to practice distancing yourself from your fear.

So that is what i want you to practise. Stop emotionally investing yourself into your fear. Take a deep breath and look at the bigger picture, Take those blinders off.
