Scam! Scam! Scam! Alert!

So we all know about scams and they seem to get better and better. This one is quite compelling. So if you receive it, bin it and empty your trash. Because only a few will read this here at WA - please post this in your next post so that as many people as possible don't get duped by the same scam. This is very serious but as you will see from my conclusion I am making light of it.

I have removed my email addresses here as they have so kindly inserted them.

What did I do when I received this email? I had a spa, got dressed, had a cup of coffee with toast, checked and responded to some text messages, read all my emails and then decided that the WA community needs to be aware of this scam.

First off when they address me as user, I am a little insulted as they do have my name as Michael. Then they proceed to tell me what a sordid life I've had and they want to make me famous by sending my activity to all my contacts...good luck with that, I have maybe 8 close friends the rest would have no idea who I am because the last time I may have contacted them would have been so long ago they wouldn't even know who I am now anyway.

Their english is atrocious apart from all the grammatical errors.

Plus, the email was retrieved from a job I left some time ago which is not current.

Luckily I also got a warning from someone else who also received this email.

So remember to share this with everyone you know and repost this.

Having said this, if you do get videos of me, let me know this could be my path to fame and fortune...or infamy, I'm not sure which.

I thought I would add this warning supplied online by an authorised website:

"Ransomware

Criminals are increasingly using specific malicious software (called ransomware) to trick people into paying money. You may receive a ‘pop up’ message while browsing online which purports to be from the police. The message advises that your computer is ‘locked’ because of accessing illegal sites and that you must pay a fee to ‘unlock’ it.

This type of demand will never be issued by a law enforcement agency. It is a scam designed to generate profits for criminals.

Users affected by this particular scam should not pay any money. There are numerous official websites and blogs with instructions on how to safely remove this type of malware from your computer. You can also seek support from an anti-virus provider or computer repair centre if they need assistance to remove it."

Wishing you all prosperity,

A while ago I did a post on how to track a scammer, you may find this post of interest:

Hi Michael
Got a similar letter a couple of weeks back.
Thrown it in the bin and blocked the sender.
Unfortunately out of 10 people, one will fall for that.
Thanks for sharing
Sylvia

True, Sylvia. Someone will definitely fall for it.

Thanks,
Michael.

Many thanks for this alert Michael.
It would seem that most scammers are of very low intellect, and they assume that the people they are trying to scam are the same!!

So true Chrissie. Nice to see your face again. :)

Michael.

That is kind Michael, and good to see you too :)

There sure are some crazy fools out there Michael

Yes there are, but it takes all sorts to make a world...

aint that the truth :)

Wow Michael. This is some crazy stuff! I’ve gotten quite a few scam demands but hadn’t seen this particular variety with the bitcoin request. I’m guessing they target men but I’ll be on the lookout and spread the word.

Erica

Nice to see you again Erica. I hope all is going well with you?

I think you’re right, but it’s only a matter of time before they figure out how to hit on women.

Michael.

The only reason I said that is I've heard that far more men visit porn sites than us. I think they're just playing the odds.

It's true, but according to some statistics, more women watch porn on their phone than men, men tend to look on their desktops. Plus, the scammers are also taking a bet on the emails they send out that someone has something to hide.

Scam crazies! If only they could see the light of goodness and channel their energy into something great, like WA.

Appreciate your sharing this important notice.

Tom

I agree with you Tom. I’m guessing they live pretty miserable lives to do this.

You know if these people worked as hard on a legit opportunity like Wealthy Affiliate they would be rich. Its unbelievable the different scams coming out on a daily basis. Thank you for the update and the warning.

It's true Dale but I guess they like living dangerously. I just hope that honest people are more aware now than before.

PS: Love your signature!

Thanks, Carol.

You're welcome. Mine is supposed to be a couple dancing, and they used to dance across and spell my name, but now they're just standing at the end of it. Too old and tired to dance?? Certainly hope not!! Don't know why they stopped, though.

If you copy and paste it incorrectly it will do that. What I did was keep a post with my working signature in it, then I would copy and paste that into my new post.

Thanks, Michael. I'll have to try that.

Hey Michael, where have you been?

There are a few similar scams going around at the moment. I do hope the new peeps don't fall for them.

Hi Marion,
Good to see you. I love your new pic.

I've been working on my Steampunk workshop. I'm hoping by early next year I will be back on WA more actively.

Take care,
Michael xx

Thanks, Michael. Appreciate the warning.

I'm only too happy to help out, Carol.

Michael.

Grins. (That's my version of a smiley face, as I'm no great fan or emoticons!)

Thanks for the heads up!

You're very welcome.
