Twacks OCD And The Power Of Three

OCD and the power of three is a melon twister even coming from me.... Here's how it began. I was driving down to my local garage, they tolerate my frequent visits, with or without vehicles needing attention. On certain days we have most definitely put the world to rights...and really don't understand why no one has phoned us up and asked for our advice..baffling.

I was obviously on 'auto-pilot' as my mind starting playing a form of word association... I was thinking I might write a blog about OCD... As a sufferer it has been something I wanted to expand upon..today was not to be the day, however, as I went off on one... I guess Prof Twack took over and decided to dabble in some tangentology.

The word association came after the thoughts about OCD... I was playing with the acronym and came up with a couple of alternatives...probably something to do with trying to finish a post...not managing to but sorting a fair chunk.

OCD and the power of three, cubed, cubism, Dali, Salvador, El, sell, selling, affiliate..and here we are..tenuous at best but it didn't stop there. Obviously I was thinking about unfinished content..or outstanding content...ah yes, you see.

You have 'Outstanding' as in something that hasn't been completed followed by 'Content' and then 'Disorder'

So this was fun and of course we can't stop there...onward we go into the next evolution which was going to hit on truly excellent content... That's right..this was too easy.

You have 'Outstanding' as is something that is exemplary followed by 'Content' and then 'Disorder'

Then the more traditional 'Obsessive' followed by 'Compulsive' and 'Disorder' which now seems a bit lame compared to the other two and no where near as much fun.

So we have the power of three which led to associations that ended up with WA... I am at liberty to discuss OCD in any way shape or form...as long as it neatly done..kidding. I'm not a neaty type..I'm a checker. I was anyway..now I've kicked its derriere...It does try it on now and then and I might let it have a play..but not for long. It can be debilitating at worse and irritating at best.

Not wanting to go all psychoanalytical but when you start to look inwards and into the reasons behind what we do, it does give you a better understanding of things like OCD. Nature, nurture, trauma are all factors... I remember back to being eleven and making sure the towels in the bathroom were always lined up...exactly. Then there was what I would call symmetry touching, where if any part of a finger touched something you had to touch with the other hands' finger...and make sure it felt the same otherwise you 'd be there for ages trying to get the 'feel' just right.

We could get into neural pathways and the connection between Basal Ganglia/Orbitofrontal Cortex/Anterior Cingulate Gyrus...which in turn, due to a loss in error detection causes the brain to increase repetitive messages...a bit like trying shut a door that keeps opening...which is ironic if you think about it...shut it, it opens, shut it, it opens and so on and on and on.

What do I know...research is ongoing and as at my last foray into 'understanding' a few years ago...nobody can definitively define the exact process cause.... I am sure there are many postulations out there...but none of them really help you when you're turning that light on and off or locking that door for the umpteenth time.

Sometimes you have to say enough is enough and just get on with living... I would turn the internal voice around... The intrusive thought tells you that if to don't comply with what ever compulsion you are repeating, then something bad will happen. I used to turn it round..well it was my voice in my head... If I did the compulsion..then something awful would happen...bingo, bang, wallop, by George I think she's got it...move your blooming.... Anyway, that worked for me, most of the time..or just refusing to play along..the brain can only concentrate on one thing at a time..so if I felt myself getting drawn in... I changed my focus and thought of something totally unrelated..in less than twenty seconds, whatever I was obsessing about had disappeared

Looking at it now, I did manage to get across some of my thoughts on the subject... I know a few members have mentioned it more than once on here...some say we all have a trait of it in us...probably true to an extent. The truth of it is, it is far more complex than just making sure everything is in place or your hands are clean...it can result in more extreme behaviour and it can manifest as a bi-product of other issues... It can be inter-related to a multitude of mental illnesses...all invisible on the outside yet causing turmoil on the inside.

Another small layer of the onion peeled.

Right I'm off for some more content writing...those poor, poor visitors, what have they let themselves in for.

As always, just my thoughts, rightly or wrongly.

Be well

Thank you so much for connecting. I loved your writing. It is brilliant. I definitely relate. I also found freedom in sharing my story. I live in a country where nobody talks about OCD .Where people don't even know what this is all about. People just suffer quietly. I consider myself a conqueror. At least now I know I am not crazy but have a condition

You are indeed a conqueror. Putting it out there, right at the start. It's plenty misunderstood, even today. Some prefer to keep it in and suffer in silence, maybe for fear of being misunderstood or stigmatised, maybe it's ego or a sense of shame in that they feel there is something 'wrong' with them. Intrusive thoughts carry with them a huge bag of guilt and that is hard to reconcile. Everyone is different. I'm happy to share, I am who I am and have accepted that. I found there is no magic cure just perseverance and a willingness to try different things. At some point I thought 'It's my brain and it will do as it's told, by me.' Sure it didn't always listen, but over time, it got the message.

Its good to know I am not alone.

Brother/Sister I loved reading this!! Apologize as to not knowing your sex. I also am BLESSED with this of what 'they' and us thereafter have labeled OCD. Writing this just for your ears.... Your looking within your looking in the right place! Trust me when I say that everything has its reason precisely! Meaning: no coincidence no dejvue no matter..... Ok, so Nikola tesla had to walk around a building 3 times always before he would enter.... 3 sides to a triangle. Seriously if you are just now speaking out loud your power of 3. I commend you to continue. Learn how to meditate. The metaphysical and esoteric are at arms length. Ill help you in anyway I can. Just can't lead you right too the exact door. I mean I could..... Trust me tho the door means a lot more when you find it yourself!! Much Love Light & Compassion!

Hey Andrew, really appreciate you stopping by and your kind words. All is good with the world and life. All still a work in progress but constantly moving in the right direction. I like the 'door' analogy but don't worry I'll find it.
Be well.

Oh I think it is a prerequisite for nursing to be somewhat OCD... Outstanding Compassion Distribution jklol
But seriously I hope this helps. Your idea to share the experience and techniques that helps comes out of caring. Great blog Twack. You are a stellar sweetyheart fa tastic example to hone your strengths and no wonder your brain gets scrambled you're so smart it would probably take 5 other brains to keep up with your storms.

Thank you for taking a stroll down 'Memory Blog Lane' and for your uplifting words, they're outstanding as always. As our little social media icons say "Sharing is caring" Seems wrong to keep it to yourself. It's not for everyone though and I get that. Stigma smigma.

Lol agreed!:):):) my privilege

I have OCD... Outstanding Content Disorder. I prefer to call it 'Soon to be Published' or 'Working On' I do find your 'filename' of OCD to make more sense though. Now I will obsess about changing the title of my file... as I tend to do about things.

I use all three...all of the time, well most of the time, sometimes, maybe two out of three, maybe, not sure.

I love your quote... ‘I think therefore I’m dangerous’. Great words to ponder!

Normally what gets us into trouble....or we we dont'...can't win either way.

I OCD and CRS and you have given me another headache with your words of wisdom. I understand what you are saying, but it takes to much thought to unravel your meanings, as always you have things to think about, but I wish I didn't have to think so hard to get your meanings and I am doing this on a phone with no data and a broken screen. So please make your words of wisdom a little less mind altering. Please like my comments, thanks Sruffey.

1

Thanks David, always appreciate your input.. I'll try my best for you in the future. Be well.

1

Yep, you think and of course that makes you dangerous.

2

Thanks Fran, I really should try giving 'not thinking' a go sometimes.
